I have no problem with holding on to Halladay, my problem lies with the way JP dealt with the whole sitution from the start.
First he publicly and intentionally states that he is open to offers for Halladay and ruins what should have been a special all-star game for Halladay as he had to spend the entire time answering trade questions for a guy who isn't exactly a big fan of well...talking.
Second, he hypes Halladay to the Philly media (which even gets the mayor involved) to put pressure on managment when it seems they where never close to a deal. Then he tells Texas that's he's available, fields offers from them and then comes back and says "oh by the way, Roy will veto a trade to Texas, later" and JP's bridge burning continues.
Third, I don't think he ever had any intention of trading Halladay before the deadline, he just wanted to field offers, fair enough, however, in the process he found a way to alienate Doc and some of his most sensible suitors.
I think JP has made some good trades but it's more than outweighed by his horrible signings, even if we give him a pass on Wells (no one expected him to fall off like this) and say he had to overpay for Burnett to come to Canada what meaningful FA's has he brought to Toronto in his tenure? He payed/is paying Thomas and Ryan ridiculas amounts of money to play for other teams. Not to mention how he alienates players (Lilly, Hilldenband, Thomas, Doc, Accardo, Dunn, etc.), makes horrible coaching decisions (Cito was not his idea), looks down on the fans and always makes his inentions known when they shouldnt be, "This will be an off year" "We will only match Burnett's deal to this amount" "We are open to trading our best and most loyal player" etc. I won't even get into the broken promises. He's a poor man's Billy Beane (look at how well oakland is doing) and his welcome was worn out years ago, please get rid of him.

I didn't really read the article, but the feeling I got was all the writers wanted to see Doc traded so they didn't have to bother covering the Blue Jays anymore. Don't think anyone realized that perhaps the decision not to move him was already made by the higher ups, ie. Paul Beeston.
