Finley + Bonner + Mason for Atkins + Songalia + $1.53 mil TPE
$2,500,000 Finley
$3,256,500 Bonner
$3,780,000 Mason
---------------
$9,536,500
$3,480,000/$760,000 Atkins
$4,526,000 $4,818,000 Songalia
---------------
$8,006,000
For the Spurs, Atkins contract is only gauranteed for $0.76 so if he's waived he saves a team $2.72 mil. The TPE is $1.53 mil, so that's 2009 savings of $4.25 mil. Since the Spurs are over the lux, that's doubled, so they save $8.5 mil this year. Next season you pay Songalia $4.8, so the savings is $3.7 mil. Your team also gets two years of production from Songalia, and two roster spots you could use to add veteran free agent at the min, or upgrade with the TPE.
I assume you think Mason is OK, but with his price and the others doubled over the lux, this seems like a cost-effective way to move some of those contracts. We could agree to release Finley and Bonner if you'd like them to return.
Roger Mason is worth a look, but mainly this is just a way to send give up 2009 cap space in exchange for 2010 cap space.
