Re: Tom Moore 2.0
Thad is well more than "a notch" below Kevin Durant. Durant has way more scoring ability, better shooter, better handles, better creator for others, better rebounder, better defender... honestly, I'm not sure there's one facet of Thad's game I would take over Durant.
Not sure what exactly you mean by "a notch", but if it's the same definition I have this is a classic example of people overrating Thad.

Kevin Durant is NOT a defensive player and people have always questioned his rebounds at a legit 6'11. Durant is good, but he's not LeBron James, who would more accurately fit your description.
Durant's a better offensive player, but as far as intangibles go? Thad is far more developed.

Thaddeus Young has progressed faster than the Sixers or their fans expected, but he needs to work on his rebounding, ball-handling, passing and perimeter shooting. And he remains a small forward, which is also Iguodala's best position.

I didn't say Durant was a "defensive player", but I still say he's a BETTER defender that Young. Young is not a defensive player either. I'd say they are close overall defensively, but I give Durant the edge because he's a better shot blocker and rebounder...something that really hurts Thad when you consider the fact that he plays closer to the basket on D than Durant does.
As far as intangible go I would easily take Durant too. No way in hell is Thad "far more developed" than Durant in intangibles. Durant should have been an all-star last year and was only hurt because his team doesn't win. Thad is no where close to being an all-star at this stage.

I'm not taking sides, but I'm quite sure most NBA GMs would take Durant over Young.

Can I quote Iggy "There's no difference between the 2/3". What Iggy needs to work on, is putting the ball in the bucket.

Dala fits the athletic slasher mold of off-guard(ex. Drexler, Ron Harper, Richmond, Jordan(initially)), especially with his playmaking at his size. He is the ideal size for the 2-guard spot on both ends. If anything, his "best" position is point forward. But that does not mean you cannot play both Thad & Dala together, especially if Thad's shot improves

This is somewhat of an unfair comparison though because Durant is going to be a star & most fans expect that from him. Personally I don't think Young will be that far behind him. But look at the draft, one that was supposedly quite deep. Outside of Durant, Horford & the potential of Oden, Young looks like he might easily be the best player. He's probably the best prospect this team has seen since AI.

You know, that draft was pretty amazing. Even if Oden turns into a bust, its still had a lot of good prospects. Remember Yi?

Even our own GM. Every GM would take Durant.

Thad Young looks like he can be an all star player, but franchise player type potential seems too premature. Maybe after this season, but as of right now I would think most people that follow the NBAS wouldn't regard had as a franchise player. I can understand it though. The fan's of almost every team witha good young player think he has franchise player potential, while in reality those players are rare. Also as of right now putting Thad in the same sentence as Durant doesn't make sense. I think people view Durant as a player tha can be one of the best players in the NBA.

I remember that Milwaukee wouldn't take whatever combinaton of our 2 or 3 1st rounders to let us move up to take Yi at #6. Even though I rarely praise BK, he deserves some credit for not wasting all of our picks on this one.

I love what Thad brings to this team, and what he may become (a 22-24 ppg player), but we can't fairly compare him to Durant. Durant and Oden are the class of that draft, and he has a ton of star potential with his rare package of skills at that length. That doesn't mean he's going to win more championships than other players, but he is a better player than Thad.

But what did the Sixers get from their three first-rounders? Thaddeus Young was an excellent pick, but they sent a 2009 second-rounder to Miami to get Jason Smith, who could be a pretty good pro, and traded out of the first round (No. 30) and got Derrick Byars, who they waived. The Sixers could've made a much bigger impact by drafting Rudy Fernandez or Aaron Brooks at 21 (rather than Smith) and Carl Landry or Big Baby Davis at 30, not to mention Marc Gasol at 38 (another pick they traded away).

Totally agree.
For as much as they patted their backs about the 2 #1's for AI, they wasted #30, and took NO heat for it.
Davis should have been the pick at #30.
But that move was ALL about the $$$$$.

Personally, I think that was the move that finally sunk BK.
Yes, he made a good move by not spending all of our picks to move up to #6, but then wasted one of the two first rounds picks we got from the AI deal by trading down and then cutting Byars, before the season. Instead of trading for some future second-rounders, selling it for a lump sum of $$$ or picking some developing foreign player (if he didn't want to pay the guaranteed salary), it was completely wasted on Byars. We did get some "cash considerations" from Portland, admittedly.
Still, how laughably bad that was.

If Milwaukee is the one that wouldn't do it, why give BK credit?
Ugh, can you imagine how much uglier this team's future would be with Yi in place of Thaddeus (and Smith)?

This is one of those half full vs half empty glass arguments. I was upset at the time that the Dallas pick became Kaponen who was then traded for Byars & cash. BK didn't want 3 contracts but he could have kept Kaponen overseas like Portland did. In other word it was about the money. I was also upset that the NY second rounder was wasted in compensation to Utah (for taking Henderson to keep us under the LT the year before) after BK miscalculated the Webber buy-out. Utah used that pick for Fesenko & we received Herbert HIll. I wouldn't mind Fesenko on this team. On the other hand, Young was an awesome pick & Smith could still become a pretty good one. In retrospect Fenandez would have been a better fit & Gosol or Davis would have been fine as well with the later picks. It was annoying to have to give Miami our second rounder this year to move one spot for Smith though. We could have used that pick on Meeks or Thornton.

Tom Moore-assuming IVey and Breznak will be signed, the sixers will have 12 players under contract. Is that it until training camp?..At a minumum, they need to bring someone in to compete for some of Willie Green's minutes. A Von Wafer, Rod carney, Luther Head

While it was nice to get Thaddeus.... The 07 draft really frustrated me.
