Min
In Lee, Gasol, LAL first round pick
Out Jefferson, Songalia, second round pick

LAL
In Harris, Jianlian, Songalia, Min second round pick
Out Gasol, first round pick

NJ
In Jefferson
Out Jianlian Harris Lee

I don't expect much support for the trade (I don't want to give Rubio more of a reason to come here myself), but just want to see your thoughts on it. I should also note I did consider throwing in Flynn to get the rights to the Memphis 2010 (top 6 protected) pick. I decided against that because of tanking possibilities.

So your wondering if like the idea of Gasol and Rubio???? Tempting in a weird way, but I like Al for now.

well first round pick means nothing to the lakers, its one less guaranteed contract. I could only see LA doing this if 3 conditions are met:
1 they are confident Yi becomes better defensively and continues to fill out his body and can be a PF
2. Odom can hold down the fort at the PF exclusively.
3. Farmer is NOT going to replace Fisher in the long run.
if so, their backcourt is immediately the best in the league. I cannot think of one team better defensively than Kobe/Harris/Artest. Odom and Bynum aren't bad defsensively either and their offense would likely need to be a bit more free flowing than the triangle from time to time to utilize Harris and Yi. but thats not a bad team and those guys are still young. so no, i don't think LA is raped as bad as it looks at first.

Yi Jianlian could have a shot at being voted into the all star game.

Now, if the Wolves could somehow pull a Lee-Fernandez move

Why does LA break up their championship team? Jefferson's great and all, but Gasol is perfect for the Lakers. 7 footer that can play high and low post, passes well, PLAYS DEFENSE, and is still in his prime.

Let's wait until Al Jefferson can carry a 30 win team before we start saying he's better than Gasol.

Considering how the wolves played in January and that it wasn't a fluke, I'm confident Jefferson is better than Gasol. Better low post scorer and offensive arsenal, but i give Gasol the edge on defense due to his better shot blocking and he's a little more quick and agile.

I'd like to Clarify: Gasol does not carry anyone (see Memphis) ... Kobe carries the Lakers and Gasol is a nice fit. True, Jefferson must prove he can be a pillar for the Wolves, but those odds are much higher IMO than Gasol carrying any team in the NBA.

Grizzlies made the playoffs 3 times with Gasol which is what I was referring to, obviously he isn't the one carrying the Lakers. Memphis did have nice supporting players like Shane Battier and Mike Miller, but Gasol was the best player on the grizzlies basically the entire time he was there.

Al Jefferson has only really had one chance to lead a team since he got injured last year, and he's 5 years younger than Gasol so it's premature to say he can't or won't be as good, but it's far more premature to say he's better than Gasol right now. At this point, it's almost not worth arguing, Gasol is better.

As a wolves fan, I hope he becomes better than Gasol, but realistically where can he lead us as the number one option? Where can he even lead us as a number two option given his lack of passing ability and need for the ball in his hands to be effective at all?

Jefferson could wind up being better than Gasol ever was as a first option but Gasol is the best 2nd option in the league. Al Jefferson would not be better than Gasol as Kobes sidekick. Especially not now. I'm not sure if you are saying Jefferson > Gasol based on the potential he has for the future since Gasol is obviously older. But I don't think Jefferson would be able to do what Gasol does for Kobe as a 2nd option.

That was pretty much my point. Even if you believe Jefferson is better than Gasol, it's quite obvious that Gasol is the better fit, and when you're contending for championships, that's the important part. If you're rebuilding, then you go for the talent and worry about the fit later on.

I might as well say it, I considered an even bigger trade by throwing Flynn to the Lakers who send the pick to Memphis who in turn send something back to us. Nothing worked at all. Flynn's irrelevant and has nothing to do with the trade. It's just something I considered, but quickly dismissed.

The real question is if Minnesota thinks Gasol, Lee, and a 2010 LA Laker first is greater than Jefferson, Songalia, and a 2010 second round pick.

I can't speak for New Jersey, but I see them approving of this deal because they wanted to trade Harris, Jianlian, and the #11 pick in the draft for Jefferson, so all I'm doing is substituting the pick for the recently acquired Courtney Lee.

I think LA strongly considers the move because they save money in 2010 as they don't have to pick up Jianlian's option while Devin Harris is not only 3 years younger than Gasol, he also has a much more affordable contract that him too. The picks are small in comparison to the big names being thrown around, so that won't be a major issue.

Edit: I just realized Memphis gets LA's 2010 pick, so maybe a future first round pick then

To the OP..........tell me how this trade benefits the Lakers ? Cause from what I'm seeing this has no advantages for the Lakers. Obviously you gotta be some young stud who doesn't understand the Lakers are about winning and would never break up a team as young as this Laker team is just to save some bucks.

Good thing it's just a pipe dream in your head because that trade WON'T ever happen in a million years.
