C's last piece
after getting shelden and daniels, then baby back... the only piece the c's lack is a long sf who can actually shoot and defend.
options:
battier for scal, TA & giddens
this gives houston great flexibility next summer with all the expirings including tmac's. the loss of battier also wouldn't hurt with the arrival of the younger ariza. yao in the franchise will be very attractive to upcoming stars who will be FA's in 2010.
james jones for scal & giddens
this gives mia more money to spend in the offseason
mopete for scal & TA
noh unloads one of their many wings for expiring contracts
donte greene for giddens
with sac having noc, garcia and thompsom playing sf for them. greene seems to be the odd man out. giddens is an aggressive sg who will be perfect to back up kmart.
what's the most feasible deal?

not sure why Sac would trade Green. Especially for Giddens.

Re: C's last piece
Where do I sign the petition for the Battier trade? I think Houston could probably get more fot him, at least the other contending teams would be trying to make counteroffers to undermine the Celtics.
What a team though:
Perk
KG
Pierce
Allen
Rondo
Baby
Sheed
Battier
Daniels
House
Bob Swift
Seldom Williams
Bill Walker
Lester Hudson
Jason Williams (not sure about his status yet, but he'd be PG insurance)

Re: C's last piece
Battier would be a fantastic addition. Unfortunately, I do not see that happening.
Did I miss something? Is Baby back in the fold? I definitely want him back for the right price.
I also want Starbury. I think he still has gas in the tank and, if he comes back willing to back up and mentor Rondo, that would solidify us further.
Also, when and how does Marquis get locked in?

I might be wrong but I thought Daniels was PP's backup... and the Celtics are now looking for a veteran PG.... or if Huddy shows something in TC... then Hudson is the final piece...
I just saw a blurb on Celticsblog that the Celtics are no longer interested in Starbury... and who would? I can just imagine Doc and DA watching Steph "living" at home on his live vid and shaking their heads. That guy is just plain weird!

Re: C's last piece
I think we are in OK shape at the back-up 3 between Daniels, Walker, Scal, Davis, T. Allen. None are out of central casting for the Posey role, but between them Doc has guys who can match up in most scenarios.
The real hole, as far as I can see, is back-up 1. Don't see one on the roster, or at least one that demonstrated he can play the position 15 mpg in the NBA.

Sam Cassel- I think we're gonna sign him to the minimum out of the blue.

Re: C's last piece
I agree with Elrod. I think another PG is a more pressing need. I know Danny envisions Marquis and Eddie complementing each other quite nicely. But I remember he had the same expectations for Tony and Eddie.
We need to have another PG who is capable of being the primary ball handler on this roster. If we end up having to sign Marquis to the BAE. I hope we use Tony is a sign and trade for someone like C.J. Watson. He can shoot the 3 and is a decent defender. Not bad for possibly your 3rd pg.

so you guys are saying we need a back pg more than a sf? i was under the impression that daniels is a back up pg in most scenarios.

Man, I've always loved Shane Battier's game and leadership. He would be absolutely perfect for this team.
Too bad we don't have the resources to get him.

Well, I thought the point of aqcuiring Daniels was to get a backup wing. I like Battier more, but we still wouldn't have a point guard.
Since, it is a crumby market for pg's, they should probably just swing in an grab Jason Williams. I know he isn't very good but he might be the best player out there that the Celts would be in the market for

No, I don't think Daniels will play pg for the C's. Daniels is going to backup the SG and SF. now, if he and House are in the game at the same time, I see Marquis doing a lot of the ball handling, initiating the offense, while Eddie concentrates on what he does best...catch and shoot...but officially it would still be House at PG and Daniels at SG/SF.
If Rondo gets hurt and has to miss an extended period, then the C's are going to need another PG. House can handle the job for 10 minutes a game...with assists from Pierce and Daniels...but I don't think he can handle the job for 40 minutes a game, game in and game out. Yes, the C's do need another PG (or combo guard) on the roster. CJ Watson would be fine, as would T Lue or B Knight, or any number of other guys. Take your pick, or just keep a slot open and pick up someone if needed.
What about Hudson? Who knows what he can, or can't do, and do you want to trust a 2nd round rookie to be the insurance against an injured Rondo? I didn't think so.

Re: C's last piece
I like the James Jones idea. The "long 3 who can shoot and defend" is over-specific. We just need another reliable wing back-up option besides Daniels, hopefully one who can shoot. TA and especially Giddens and Walker are very unreliable.

Re: C's last piece
Before anyone makes another trade thread, can you please remind yourself that the entire league is not out to giving players away just for expirings or that the league is out to help the Celtics and please stop overrating our players. There's no chance the other teams even consider the first or second deals. Giddens has very minimal value as a prospect and is not worth Battier or Greene, not even close.
The second and third could get done for financial reasons, but I see no reason why the Celtics would want to take on the salary in either case, especially when we're getting Daniels in. If we S&T for Marquis, I'd look into signing Bowen for the vet min as 4th/5th wing and basically end the offseason there.

even if we do one of those trades.. we can still sign a vet pg before calling it an offseason.

Re: C's last piece
I say sign a vet PG and call it an off season. I'd like to see TA kept here for insuranse in case of injury. As much as he is maligned I like that he knows the system and can play solid defense if called upon.
Now, if you can some how trade House to sign Daniels we could sign Marbury and maybe Lue as the backup PGs. In this case we could even bring in Bowen if needed. Lets see if Ainge rests after this week.
