Flynn should be taller?

Post#1 » by Vega06 » Sat Aug 8, 2009 5:21 am

Did anyone else know this? He broke a growth plate in 8th grade and hasn't grown since

I found it in this article:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/draft2009 ... our-090525

Flynn blames his lack of size on an eighth-grade basketball accident. It was his last game playing junior varsity. He was driving to the basket. A defender pushed him in the back. He broke his ankle.

In the hospital Flynn got some of the most disappointing news of his life from a doctor. "He told me that the bone I broke was on a growth plate. He said there's a good chance I was done growing."

Flynn was frustrated because everyone else in his family is 6-foot-3 or 6-foot-4. Flynn lifts up his size-14 feet to prove that he should have been taller. "How many little guys have feet this big?"

I never knew this. How high would he have been picked if he were 6'4. Would his game be different?

Yeah, I remember hearing about it before the draft. I guess that's why his feet are apparently disproportionately large.

That means he's going to be a tank. A super strong little man. This is great news, all non mutant superheroes have crazy origin stories that revolve around freak accidents. This is Jonny Flynns. Man's destined for greatness.

A 6'4" Flynn is like a rich man's D-Rose with more pure point ability and better shooting mechanics.

I recall hearing it in a Kahn interview on draft night with ESPN. He also has large hands for his size they stated.

If I recall correctly, Kevin Love was bitten by a radioactive Beach Boy.

That seriously made me LOL.

Big hands, big feet, doesn't Flynn have a decent wingspan, as well? He's going to be like Mini-Jordan.

You know, I'm 6'3", I broke my growth plate in the seventh grade, like, six years ago, and I never thought anything of it. Now that I hear this though, I feel like I've missed out on a long and lucrative NBA career.

Be happy because a 6'3 Flynn would've been drafted before the Wolves picks. Really the only reason he wasn't a more highly regarded prospect is because he is a little short for the position which in my opinion isn't really a factor because of his physical strength, athletic ability, large hands and good wingspan for his height.

I'll admit that I had kinda ignored him at Syracuse because of his height and because their system hadn't produced a quality NBA PG since Sherman Douglas. Once I started to actually watch him it became pretty clear that he was a hell of a PG prospect.

I think there is a pretty good chance he becomes a Kevin Johnson type PG just hope its minus the injury problems. I can't imagine how teams will manage to control Flynn without being able to handcheck him as they did with KJ who was still basically unstoppable when healthy.

More height would likely harm his speed. The kid is crazy quick.

Could them big flippers result in foot injuries?

It is interesting to think of him being 6'4" ... likely would've gone in the top three picks for sure.

If he was 6'4", would he be getting Derrick Rose comparisons? Fast, strong, attacks the hoop, questionable jump shot? Too late for some revolutionary surgery that makes him grow 4 inches and regain his coordination by training camp? Where's Kraphead, he's a doctor, right? ;-)

His low center of gravity is something that will help him reach his potential. He's like a bowling ball out there.
