Would Rios sacrafice playing time in order to get on a team that has a shot at the playoffs? Doubt it.

Are you suggesting that Rios would lose playing time to Brian Anderson and Scott Podsednik ? I'd doubt it if anyone else posted it, but I suspect that you believe it would be the case.

**** your asterisk.

He certaintly won't get the playing time he got in Toronto if he came over. Podsednik has been pretty good for the Sox in the lead-off spot. The only thing he struggles with is his defense. And Brian Anderson is in Pawtucket with the Red Sox organization now (White Sox traded him for Mark Kotsay). Wise is the backup CF.

Dude, you don't trade for a guy like Rios and stick him on the bench. He'd instantly become one of the better CF's in baseball, and he's making over 11M a season for the next 5 years. Wise and Podsednik are virtual jokes compared to him.

I'd forgotten the trade, but neither Kotsay nor Podsednik are better than Rios...Kotsay hasn't topped an OPS+ of 91 since 2005, and Podsednik is surviving solely due to a BABIP that he's unlikely to maintain. If either of them got playing time at Rios' expense, it's only because Ozzie Guillen hasn't the slightest clue what he's doing.

**** your asterisk.

and the no-trade over rides waiver claims. Rios will have to approve any move.
Can anyone else second this claim ?

I'm fairly sure Rios has a no trade clause. I can't say one way or the other about the waiver claim part... but if you can move a guy that way, it seems like a cheatin' way around a no trade clause.

Re: Rios claimed on Waivers
A no trade clause "trumps" a waiver claim.
It has to...or else what is the point in having one when a GM could just waive you to get rid of you?
Either way, I don't see anything happening...Rios will still be a Jay until the offseason at least..then JP will try to trade him and be unsuccessful.
Here is a link mentioning the no trade clause;

Rios has a full no-trade clause this year and next, so there’s somewhat of a wrench that can be thrown into this whole thing, but for all practical purposes, the Blue Jays have a chance to get out from beneath this contract free and clear.

At this time last year if Rios got claimed, then I would agree it is just a standard issue and nothing would come out of it, but now I am not so sure.
was anyone else on the jays other than rios put on waivers and not claimed?
