Lineup Predictions
It seems like a long way off right now, but basketball season is only two months away. What does our lineup look like come opening day?
Barring any earth-shattering deals, there are three slots in our lineup that are givens. Now we need to just fill in the other two spots.
PG: Flynn
SG: _______
SF: ________
PF: Love
C: Jefferson
Likely candidates for the starting SG and SF spots include: Ryan Gomes, Corey Brewer, Quentin Richardson, Damien Wilkins, Wayne Ellington
So, who SHOULD be the two starting wings, and who WILL be the two starting wings?

Re: Lineup Predictions
I think you are right Foye, that's what should be but most likely won't at least at the beginning. However, assume that is the lineup.
PG: Flynn
SG: Ellington
SF: Brewer
PF: Love
C: Al
6th: Gomes
this is the "All about Potential" lineup. Best case scenario, how many wins does this lineup get in 09/10?

This is what I see right now, as well. However, if Brewer doesn't show he's ready during training camp, don't be surprised to see Richardson or Wilkins start at SG.

Re: Lineup Predictions
I'm pretty much convinced that Wilkins will be the starter at sg, barring Rubio coming to the sota.

Re: Lineup Predictions
I hope Brewer earns a starting spot but I am not holding my breath. I agree with those who said it will be Wilkins/Gomes. Unless Richardson lost some weight I think he will mostly play sf.

Re: Lineup Predictions
they won't start two rookies, so I think Wilkens will get the starting SG job, Ellington will split time with him
For SF, Gomes is a proven player with better offensive skills, Brewer still has a lot to prove, so Gomes start
Jefferson(36) / Hollins(12)
Love(34) / Songaila(10) / Pecherov(4)
Gomes(26) / Brewer (22)
Wilkens(23) / Ellington (25)
Flynn (32) / Atkins(10) / Brown (6)
for now, if we add carney, there'd be some changes at the wings

Re: Lineup Predictions
How is Wilkins defensively? I have Brewer starting because I'm assuming he's our best perimeter defender. Flynn, Gomes, Love, and Al should be more than enough offense for the starting lineup.

Gomes starting at small forward is a given IMO. I think Rambis would go with Brewer, Gomes, but who knows.

Re: Lineup Predictions
Barring a trade: Flynn, Richardson, Gomes, Love, Jefferson. Brewer will have to have a good camp to start and I don't think you see Ellington start as a rookie, but I think he gets significant minutes.

Re: Lineup Predictions
Hard to know how they will address the UPTEMPO style game with existing players.
PG = Flynn ... is on.
SG = Brewer ... short-term.
SF = Gomes ... is likely in.
PF = Love ... is in.
PF = Jefferson ... is in.
We eventually need a veteran reserve PG. Outside of the wing positions, the production from Hollins & Pecherov will be very interesting (assuming Pecherov is on the roster). I assume Rambis will try to mold either Brewer (SG/SF) or Gomes (SF/PF) into a super-sub (6th man). Richardson has no future here and is highly unlikely he'll get significant minutes - if he's even around when the season starts. Evans is a decent reserve SG, but definetly not starting material on a good team. I see Ellington as a long-term scoroer off the bench for us, but do not see him as starting caliber SG either. That leaves me with Brewer (for now) to start at SG. Rambis understands team character and the value of role players in terms of energy & grit coming off the bench ... by the end of the season, Brewer will be etched in as the long-term 6th man of the Wolves.

^ Mo Evans wouldn't be a bad short term guy to bring in and is probably available since the Hawks traded for Crawford but for now the Wolves have Wilkins.

I'm pretty sure he has a 2010 PO, so I think hes unlikely.

Sorry fellas ... I was thining Evans, but meant Wilkins in the actual post, but you seem to have already read into it...
Overall, this may prove to be a very interesting season. If Flynn, Love, and Jefferson get something cooking, I really think a quality free agent SG/SF will have to give us some serious consideration next summer. We'd be youthful and have a legit PG and interior PF duo ... then we could see guys like Brewer and Gomes have the opportunity to impact the game as key role players.

Re: Lineup Predictions
We were told 99/1 Adkins is gone, and 50/50 Qrich is gone. So I would not bank on this line-up being done yet. Rubio is also very much in the air.

Re: Lineup Predictions
I would think that Wilkins and Ellington will get most of the minutes at SG, and Gomes and Brewer will split time at SF. I kinda expect that Q-rich will either be gone or be a bench fixture like Collins/Madsen last year, at least until the trade deadline. But Kahn has as much as said that he's making more moves this summer, so who knows exactly what Rambo will have to work with?
I thought that Wilkins had a rep as a solid defender at SG/SF.

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

You see a starter being acquired with Atkins and/or Richardson? Possible, but I don't see it as likely.
