Re: Appreciation & Good bye Rabis
i think he's an idiot for doing this. He was in a good situation, he could've been coach next season with a team with much better prospects and a chance for another ring, and also could've gotten to "start" coaching this season to see what it's really like on your own for 48 minutes. Now, he's stuck with a team with "potential" (a word used too often) and has to manage some people he's never known before all by himself.
It's like he was on a bike with training wheels....and now he has to go through real races....with training wheels on.

Well, Rambis has been a full time head coach before for the Lakers when he took over the 98-99 team 13 games into the season and coached the rest of the year. I'm not going to say he did greatly then since he obviously wasn't ready for the challenges of handling the egos of Shaq, Kobe and Rodman at the same time, but he knows how it feels like to be out there coaching and he did pile up a 65 % win record which would equal a 53 win season.

Re: Appreciation & Good bye Rambis
If the guy wants to be a head coach then so be it. I'm sure he has learned what he will need to do as a head coach. Most head coaches will struggle with their first head coaching job especially with a team like the Wolves. Last year a lot of head coaches were fired. Does Kahn think that Rambis will lead his team to a record that isn't one of the worst in the league. Maybe he thinks that his team will be bad for now and by the end of Kurt's contract he will have the Wolves competing in the playoffs. Signing a new coach to 4 years in a way seems like a long time.

Lakers should get a draft pick for letting him go to them.

They should just give us Rubio. He would come play for L.A since its a big market, Pau Gasol is there, and he would win a championship in his rookie reason

Re: Appreciation & Good bye Rambis
I once saw a video a few years ago of Kurt coaching the summer league. His temperment, the way he spoke to these kids reminded me a lot of Phil.
The T-Wolves got themselves a quality coach. I wish him much success. Who knows? Maybe they'll fire him in a few years and he'll come back to the Lakers.

Re: Appreciation & Good bye Rambis
This is a significant loss for the Lakers.
Not only that he has been a true and true Laker since the 80's, he was the main assistant in charge of defense for the Lakers last year. He was the one emphasizing defensive rotations and assignments for a team that would not have won the ring were it not for the improvements made on the defensive end.
I have always liked Rambis. I loved the way he got into Shaq's face during his stint as the Lakers head coach and told him to play better defense. He is a classy guy who understands the correct way to play basketball.
The Wolves are lucky to get him. If he does not succeed, it won't be because he didn't give it 100%, but because of lack of talent and due to youth of his players.

Re: Appreciation & Good bye Rambis
How good of a future head coach prospect is he really ? With PJax contemplating retirement annually you don't think the LAL would have kept him if they thought he was brilliant and the proposed heir apparent ?

There was no guarantee of a starting job or he wouldn't have taken it. What if coach K changed his mind. Byron Scott could have become available or Kobe could have decided he wanted somebody else.
If a job opens you take it. If they win in a couple years he becomes more credible to maybe come back.

Re: Appreciation & Good bye Rambis
There must have been a conversation between Rambis and the FO about his future with the LAL.

Conversations and a guarantee is different. Regardless of the denial factor Phil is done in a year 2 max and if there was a guarantee he would still be here.

Quick question...
Does this mean the Wolves will now have our number? What if the wolves was one of team Rambis scouted for US.....wont that mean he will know exactly what we will throw at them?

Since coaches are "recycled" throughout the NBA, it's very possible that we get Rambis again sometime in the future. Bye Kurt.. you'll be missed, and good luck with your new coaching job!

Re: Appreciation & Good bye Rambis
In 10 years the Lakers won 4 Titles.
I think it had more to do w/ Kobe Phil and Shaq than good old yo McHale I aint laundry Rambis
McHale: What do you do with clothes
Rambis: What
McHale: You put them on a clothes line and your jersey is dirty
JK (Worst terash talk ever)
Rambis apparently wouldn't mind having Luke go to the Wolves according to the radio. This might be good for cap room.
Luke and Love are good passing forwards

Lakers are 22-3 in OT last 6 seasons:Kobe best OT closer!

Re: Appreciation & Good bye Rambis
I don't think Kurt was going to be our next coach and I think we let him off the line on that one. Phil probably has one more year and so does Byron Scott's contract.
Now does Kurt run the triangle in Minni? I do think that Kurt would be a better coach for Andrew, but one more year of Phil shouldn't hurt him too bad.

I agree. Im not buying Rambis or Shaw as our next coach. I just don't think a first year coach can handle all of what we got in LA.

Re: Appreciation & Good bye Rambis
Thanks for all you did for the Lakers. Good Luck!
I think he'll do great. He says he's going to run a showtime era intense defense out of which a high octane fast-break offense springs. His half court offense will utilize the triangle, but not exactly the same way that Phil and Tex like to run it nowadays.
There is some serious talent on that team, actually. Kurt might get COY if they make the playoffs, which is not entirely impossible. Jefferson, Brewer, Love, Gomes, Wilkins, Q-Rich etc is not an all bad roster. Kurt is a good coach. Then maybe add Rubio next year... They could be an annual playoffs team for years to come.
To me, it won't come down to Kurt, because I think he'll do great. But something seems seriously wrong in the judgment department higher up within that organization. Hopefully that won't affect the players and coaches, but it usually trickles straight down like burning acid and breaks morale. I hop that won't be the case now when Kurt is in charge.
So long, Superman.
