We'll call this topic: THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY (NBA title)
When we glance over the history of the Spurs many years as an elite club, which failed title run gave you the most sleepless nights?
A. 1995 -Spurs had the best record in the NBA along with MVP D-Rob at his absolute best signaling to everyone in San Antonio that this was their year only to have it unravel when the sixth seeded Rockets came to town.
B. 2004 - Spurs were the champs and on the road to repeat, when suddendly the Lakeshow's Derek Fisher snatched victory from the jaws of defeat and hit a last second shot heard 'round the world.
C. 2006 - Once again, the Spurs were the champs on the road to repeat only to have it all de-railed by a spunky bunch from Dallas that just would not die.
D. 2008 - In what was largely seen as San Antonio's last stand as a defending NBA champion, the Spurs failed to repeat once again keeping the club out of the discussion of great NBA dynasties of the past.

I think everyone would agree that Fisher's 0.3 shot hurts the most. Therefore, that's the one that got away and give us the most sleepless nights.

As for myself, 1995 hurt the most for me since that was probably the only year I wanted the Spurs to actually win something. However, if the Spurs did win that title in '95, it probably sets in motion a whole new turn of events that leads to the ultimate destruction of the franchise today since Duncan most likely would not have been a Spur come 1997.
What I meant by "destruction" is the team would've up and left San Antonio by now had Duncan not saved the franchise.

Fans of all teams have had sleepless nights before, see Dallas fans in 2006 and Laker fans in 2004 and 2008. I think Spurs fans have it easiest knowing that they support the classiest and undisputedly best team of the past decade.

Who is to say that we would have beat the Wolves or the Pistons later on?
It was game 5... not a game 7.... We could have won the next game and forced a game 7. We didn't. They were better... case closed for me.
To me... it was game 7 vs the Mavs. The same team that choked in the finals after being up 2-0 and then later on lost as a 1st seed next year.

+1
The manu foul on Dirk hurt big time. We would have crushed Miami.

That series was so deadlocked it could've gone either way..IIRC barring Game 2 five of the games were decided by 5 points or less, two by one, and one by two..and I couldn't believe it when Duncan himself missed the potential GOAT GW put back field goal to come back from 3-1 and 20 point deficit...but Dallas was just hungrier IMO. They came out firing on all cylinders in OT and none of our guys could buy a bucket...

.4 was absolutely brutal for me. I remember reading the nba.com play by plays on one of the school computers. The message 'end of game' came up on the screen and I started celebrating. When I sat down it had been replaced with 'Derek Fisher - shot made - 0.4'.

It's 0.4 easily for me. TD made the shot that should've been another defining moment in his career, instead a footnote on a disappointment.
The Pistons crushing them in the Finals almost made up for it.

Well, it's not the Pistons that beat us, but Shaq and Kobe beat the Lakers...

A gimpy Mailman certainly didn't help. But credit needs to go to the Pistons. They were massive underdogs and they stomped a mudhole in you guys.

2000 ought to be on that list. The year after your first title, TD's third year, DRob still a beast, the season ends early in the first round when Duncan misses the playoffs with injury. You played Phoenix who was playing without Jason Kidd for the first few games, but Kidd came back and that made the difference in the series.

0.4 for me, that one was a dagger through the heart that i'll never forget.

0.4 was huge, but the one for me that hurt the most was 06. Right when our Rivalry with Dallas was at it's peak. We were down 3-1 and stormed back to force a game 7, were down by 30 odd, came clawing back and went to overtime. After being down by 2 games and 30 points in game 7 i just wanted soooooooooooo bad to pull that one out, forcing Dallas to accept the biggest playoff choke job of the decade.
What was worse, they got backdoor swept by an inferior Miami team, (sorry heat fans it's true)

Are the Mavericks any more than a 2nd tier threat in the West? I don't see the big deal with the moves they made. Don't Marion and Howard play the same position?

Yeah I don't think any of the elite contenders are taking them too seriously..Marion does nothing for their half-court offense..Trading away Devin Harris for an aging, over-the-hill Kidd sealed their fate..

I don't think this Mavs team can go far in the playoffs with the team they have...
But as far as regular season, I think they're gonna be pretty awesome provided they'll run like the Suns did.
