Hughes should've been in the game tonight. I understand he pitched in 4 of the last 5 games but he threw to one batter in each of the last two. Coke pitching to Ellsbury made sense, but Hughes should've been in for Pedroia and Martinez. Watch it come back and work out well for us because most of the Sox hitters have yet to see Hughes out of the pen. 96 mph is a lot different than 91 mph.

I agree. What is up with babying Hughes? Last 3 appearances, Hughes came in for one batter in the 8th. Is there something we don't know? One inning can't kill him.

If anything I feel Coke needs his work load reduced. Girardi is overusing Coke much like Torre overused Tanyon Sturtze. Last night was an example, his location was off and Victor Martinez made him pay.

Yanks won't have to face Roy Halladay but we do have another Mitre start (ugh).

Then the Yanks fly out to Seattle before going to Fenway.

Sox are sick bad right now. If they had the balls they would bench Papi, put Victor at first, shift Youkilis to third and make Lowell the DH. Improve the defense AND the hitting. Aside from that, they need Buchholz to step up to have a chance...ain't getting anywhere without a solid 3 in the AL East. A decent SS would be helpful to them too, not gonna happen this year or in the offseason, no one really good available. Maybe they go after a 2nd baseman and move Pedroia to short.

Ok, from this point forward based on that, Ortiz gets much more bench time. Good move Sox, had to happen.

Also, although they look ugly right now....keep in mind their hitting has improved with Victor....and, can't rule out Buchholz and Bowden helping. Anything they give although prolly not a lot will be more than they have been given last 40 games or so.

Fun fact, Sox face 43 out of last I think 53 games against playoff calibre teams. If you include Jays. Rays face 35. Rangers 25 or so I read on SoSh.

If it's better defense you want, just leave youkilis at 1st and Lowell at 3rd. DH Victor Martinez.

I know it's highly unlikely but I'd like to see if the Yanks can beat Lester. So far, Lester dominates the Yanks but I feel almost hopeful with mad hope that they can sweep the Sox. Tomorrow, the pen should be good to go. Pettitte has been very good as of late. If they can get to Lester say 2-3 runs then they can get 5 out of Andy, 2 Aceves, 1 from Bruney, .1 from Hughes (cause we are babying him), and 1 from Mo.

man I'm pulling for Andy...I'm hoping we find a way to put some numbers up for him tonight...its always tough to watch a game like he had vs. the A's just a couple of weeks ago...

It's hard to question Girardi, when Robertson did the job. Yeah, it wasn't perfect, but he actually looked pretty good once he settled down. Fastball was topping out at 95 mph.

As for CC, can you say DOMINANT. Good god, he was untouchable. Was spot-on with his fastball, and it was touching 96 for a lot of the afternoon, even got as high as 98 mph. That with his slider, is just nasty. If he starts pitching like this, we are a huuuuuuuuge force to be reckoned with.

Hopefully, Pettitte can battle and keep us in the game long enough, so we can jump on that tired Boston bullpen. I expect a close one against Lester.

Lots of questions regarding Girardi and BP management the last month and a half. BUT!!!! We have gained 9 games or so on the Sox in that time, soooo....who is the fool?

It will be very interesting with Joba. IMO they need to start working Phil in for more innings, unless they just let Joba loose...which I think would be bad...way over innings limit. Stretch Phil, let him take Chamberlain starters innings, and then make your decision post season.

In today's Jack Curry piece covering the game, Girardi was quoted as saying Philip Hughes was unavailable. They are babying him because they damn well know he's young and has had a couple nagging minor injuries over the last 2 years. So it is to their benefit to put Joba in the pen sooner than later.

In the meantime, give Phil Captains'n'Coke credit. He's been overworked but he's still holding up. Credit Joe for sticking with him. Hopefully, Bruney can come around and give him a rest.
