Western Conference: #1 seed (1 of 8)

Post#1 » by JordansBulls » Mon Aug 10, 2009 3:29 pm

We did this playoff format about 2 years ago. Actually it was a Celtics fan who did it. We actually had this in the General Forum so that the whole Forum could agree on it and discuss it.

At this point it seems sort of difficult to sort out who would be the top seed or 2nd best or who would even make the playoffs, I think it would be good to get REALGM as a board to vote on who we may think will end up with the best record, and all the teams that will make the playoffs as well as who will be the eventual champion.

NOTE: There are only 10 slots for each conference and as a team is chosen another team that didn't make the playoffs last year is added. Basically each team gets a chance to be voted in in order to make the playoffs.
So for #9 and #10 teams in the West right now, I'm going to use teams that have improved over the summer and who have made the playoffs recently.

MODS can you sticky this one as well? I am trying to leave these open for 3 days at a time unless it is clear of who will get each seed or record voting wise. This should take us up to end of September at least to complete all the rankings and seeds and the playoffs rounds.

I think it'll be different in the playoffs, but the Lakers are too deep and too talented to not finish in first in the regular season. They're the one team that could handle an injury the best.

Is this a joke? I'm a Laker fan but I think the general consensus is that the Lakers are the CLEAR CUT best team in the West. Anything can happen come playoff time, but I'll lay big money that LA's #1 regular season record.

I believe LA will take the 1. I also like the Spurs chances.

The Spurs won't chase the #1 seed. The Lakers will take it while playing all their major players down the stretch while the Spurs comfortably rest and take a #2 or #3 seed.

Even a healthy Spurs can't hang with what the Lakers are rolling out this season, and I say that as a die-hard Blazer fan.

You never know what will actually happen once the season starts, maybe Artest will be terrible for the Lakers chemistry, maybe they get hit with injuries really bad... But in terms of just what they have on paper, there's really no team in the West that can reasonably compete with it.

Lakers should be close to a lock to the nr 1 seed barring a major injury to Kobe (we suck at backup SG and he's our best player).

Lakers have the most talent in the league and they should take the #1 seed, but once you are a champion the top seed isn't as important. They got the #1 seed last year in case they met Boston they wanted HCA. This year I can see the Lakers slacking off a little to just wait for the playoffs.

I think San Antonio or Dallas has a good chance to get the #1 seed. Also a reason I think San Antonio would want the #1 seed is to avoid Dallas who they probably hate playing now.

Take any random sample from the coming NBA season, including the playoffs, and it's no sure thing that the Lakers will be playing the best ball in the league. But it's no knock on the other contenders to admit that LA is easily the best equipped team for playing through the entire season at a high level. Not a tough choice. On to #2.

Dallas this year may be better than their 2007 team that won 67 games.

Really I think LA will win it pretty easily... They took the #1 seed with an injury to Bynum that lasted 30+ games and great instability at SF for a majority of the season (started w/ Radmanovic, then Radman fell out of favor with Phil, So walton started, then back to Radmanovic, then back to Walton, then Ariza for the last 18 games).

Realistically the Lakers have so much talent that they can coast and still get the 1st seed.
I don't trust the Spurs to stay healthy either..
