Blue Jays at Yankees, August 10-12

Monday the 10th
-Mark Rzepczynski (1-3, 3.74) vs Sergio Mitre, 1-0, 7.50)
Rzepczynski has gone from being the guy with the unpronouceable name in a long string of call ups to a very promising young prospect who should compete for a spot in what aught to be a very competitive rotation next season. Rzep has struck out 37 batters in 33.2 innings and is holding opposing batters to a .197 average. Mitre on the other hand will be making only his 5th big league start since 2007 in an attempt to come back from Tommy John surgery.

Tuesday the 11th
-Scott Richmond (6-6, 3.97) vs Joba Chamberlain (8-2, 3.73)
Richmond has had a very solid season, highlighted by his dominance of the Philadelphia Phillies as part of a sweep of the defending champs, but he's occasionally been the odd man out despite the tattered nature of the rotation this season. Even if you think that the season is done for the team, you've got to believe that every start means quite a bit to Richmond, as hes definitely fighting for a role for next year. Chamberlain has been good but is still battling the injury bug. For this reason his innings are going to be capped for the season, despite the protestations of Tim MacCarver.

Wednesday the 12th
-Ricky Romero (10-5, 3.66) vs A.J. Burnett (10-5, 3.67)
Romero has been nothing short of a revelation this season. He went from being one of the few examples of Riccardi draft busts to a phenom rookie of the year candidate, all because of a changeup with great movement that Rod Barajas calls the best he's ever caught. This would have sounded strange (if not crazy) before this year, but if Halladay were to get traded in the offseason, Romero will be battling Shaun Marcum to be the team's ace next season. A.J. Burnett is a pitcher we know well in Toronto. His pure stuff is as good as any pitcher's in the league, and he's a threat to strike out the side and then some at any time. We know Burnett's biggest demons are injuries and consistency, but I'm hoping he's on his game on Wednesday, because this looks like it'll be a fantastic matchup.

Yanks are hot at the moment and I'm expecting 1 win in the series. Can't wait to see Ricky again.

Wooo.....
"I definitely knew he traveled, but I didn't know they were going to call it. That was one of them situations in which a great player made a move...and they called the call. And I was like, 'Oh, man, there is a God.'

Damn right. The post-Rios era also marks the beginning of the unofficial push to the postseason. 8-)

Now we get to see turds like Millar, Bautista, Encarnacion(sp?) get more PT. I'm done with this franchise.

If I had a stronger will I would boycott this team for the rest of the year to protest the Rios debacle. I just went to my first game of the year on Saturday (in which Rios had a two run homer) and it renewed my interest, but now I've become entirely pessimistic again. Still, I can't help being a fan.

Yeah, YL, I'm with ya. I've made it this far, I can't hop off now. Plus, I still remained a Leaf fan, even through their terrible stretch (which you could argue is still on-going, although Burke has done a good job so far).

But man, this move doesn't help my level of enthusiasm by any means. At this point, I just want a clear direction for this franchise. Either go all out or re-build, just don't go for this re-tooling crap. Hell, who am I kidding, that's probably what we'll do... And we'll forever be doomed to a mediocre, treadmill team existence.

LOL, anyone see that gem of a DP by our boy Lyle? The smirk on his face afterwards was priceless.

Was listening to the game at work. In the late innings i kept thinking to myself that i should probably turn it off because they're going to blow it eventually, but they held up. With Romero going on Wednesday i think we can win this series.

Very, very impressive outing by the bullpen today. What was also impressive was the graphic they showed during the broadcast today. Since July 8th, the Jays bullpen is 1st in the A.L. in ERA at 2.29. Pretty freakin' good.

Camp, League, Carlson, and Frasor all brought the good stuff today.

Just turned on the game and the first thing I hear is Overbay doubling in three runs.
