I think Spain has the talent to create two top NTs.

I mean just look:

PG: Rubio, Calderon, Llull, Cabezas, Lopez, Sada, Rodriguez
SG: JCN, Rudy, Vidal, Berni Rodriguez, Saúl Blanco
SF: Claver, Mumbrú, Jimenez, Mumbru, San Emeterio, Grimau
PF/C: Garbajosa, Reyes, Pau, M. Gasol, Vazquez, Trias, Gabriel

Thats off the top of my head i'm sure you could find more good players.

Suárez, too.
And yes, Spain needs betters SF. Hopefully Claver and especially Suárez (Claver is stuck among SF and PF) will occupy that hole before the players of the year 1980 (and Calderón is included here too, despite he born in the year 81) enter decadence.

By the way, Pau still hasn't said whether he is going to the Eurobasket or not.

Claver is the future at SF. No worries

And yes, Gasol is playing. Check FIBA.com

This has two readings. On the one hand Pau said that unlike in the past year and he feels strongly and really it's time to win a Eurobasket. On the other hand, Pau will get to the next Mundobasket very tired, and this will be probably the last time that some players go with the national team, perhaps the last time that Pau goes. If he wins gold medal nobody will think this, but if not ...

In order to get to 2010 WC, Spain has to finish in the top six in Eurobasket. I believe that's why Gasol is willing to play.

He wants to finish his international tenure on the biggest stage.

That can be achieved without Pau. With a team much worse than the current and without Pau, in Belgrade, Spain was to a basket of the final. Without Pau Spain would remain being a selection of medal in a Eurobasket. Moreover, in the highly unlikely event that Spain doesn't classify, surely would receive one of the invitations that Fiba reserves always.

I guess Pau want to win an european gold medal and because of this reason is going. But...

It would be Sergi Vidal but he is injured I think, so then I would guess it would be Sergio Llull.

I would go with Saul Blanco, I reckon Scariolo will pick Suarez from Estudiantes

It seems that Bueno is going to train with the team until Pau arrives. I think Blanco will be the choosen to replace Berni, although perhaps Scariolo wants to strengthen the team's weakest position with Suárez. Anyway Saúl also can play at three.

You can add Pablo Aguilar to that list, and Alberto Jodar in a couple of years.
BYW Jimenez retired from NT after the Olympics, you might be talking about Suarez.

No way, the replacement would be either Blanco or suarez. I'd bet for the latter.

Replacement should be Saúl Blanco: he can play both SG and SF, he's a good scorer in transition and a decent shooter, he's young and athletic and he can play D when he puts his mind to it. Not the same as Berni or as Vidal (who would have taken Berni's place if he wasn't injured), and certainly not as good a defender as these two, but versatile enough in case of injury in the perimeter.

Suárez is just not the same type of player (a tall SF by European standards who cannot play SG, more similar to Mumbrú than to Berni), and Llull doesn't fit in with three point guards already in the roster. Bueno is out of the question and probably has only been called to complete the trainings.

Pablo Aguilar will probably crack the National Team's roster next year as a reserve and should be playing regularly in three years, taking Garbajosa's spot.

Alberto Jodar will take longer: he will play in Spanish LEB Plata (third division) next year with Real Madrid and will probably not be ready to regularly contribute in some years time (think some four years - he's still transitioning from playing PF to playing full-time SF).
Probably some members of the U-20 National Team, especially M. Samb, will get there before Jodar.

As far as i know with Fuenlabrada he has always played as SF, he only played PF at some tournaments with the national team due to the lack of quality big men.
I don't know, maybe i've got too much confidence in him but i fell in love with the guy in the tournament of Linares where Rubio did...what he did. As soon as he gains some bulk i see him playing in ACB without any problem, i'm sure he would have played several games even this season if had stayed in Fuenlabrada, in Real Madrid it's a different story of course.
Samb is the other guy in the u-20 squad that could reach the senior NT indeed, but i still have some doubts about him.

He still has to improve his ball handling, especially with his left hand, in order to be a full-time SF. He is a good defender and rebounder, and of course a very good shooter (over 36% in 3P and 57% in field goals during the U-18 European Championship which he is playing right now), but he still has to develop his ball handling skills.

I agree he would have played some games in ACB with Fuenlabrada, but he probably won't with Real Madrid. Anyway, he still has to take the big step from being a potentially exceptional player to actually start to be the good player we all think he could be. Just use Claver as an example: it has taken him three years to start reaching his potential - and Claver was even more promising than Jodar.

Pau was injured the index finger of his left hand today and has been immediately operated. He's doubt for the Eurobasket, but in principle are four weeks of recovery so he should arrive at least for the second phase. A Eurobasket very poor this year...

20 days actually, i'm still confident he has the intentio to play in the eurobasket if everything goes as expected.
Looking for something positive, this will leave more playing time for Claver during the preparation games.
