I still want Joe Smith back also. We shouldn't roll the dice completely on Hickson, #1 he is unproven #2 he is having back problems. Why chance it. Smith is no star but he is a capable player, especially next to Shaq.

Also Powe could pan out great but he could also struggle with his knee. Smith gives us extra insurance/depth. Can never have enough bigs.

Love Powe... Not really worried about his overall health because he's never been a player (at least in his NBA days) that really relies on his athleticism... He's more of a under the basket, hardworking type..

My favorite part about Powe is how he draws contact and gets to the line... He's pretty much been the guy that has gotten the 2nd most FTA on the Celtics team.. He knows how to draw contact...

Plus, it's just nice knowing that he can be added to the squad later on during the season... Something to look forward to around Feb or March..

Michael Jordan wrote:Not really the best bench in the league i mean if you think about scorers there is no serious scorer to come off the bench. Celtics with Rasheed, Lakers with Odom, and Spurs always had Manu which worked out well.

Powe is not going to be able to play for quite a bit of the season so he will not be in the rotation for a while.

Now here is the good news, the best player on earth and the best center in NBA history are on the same team.
Also, Parker could be a good a play maker with Powe.

Z has been a better scorer than Rasheed for several years now. More points per minute and a higher FG%. He is the best bench center in the league.

Along with being the 5th or 6th best center in the entire league.

Dont really want Smith anymore... we have enough big men. Shaq and Z will probably get all the minutes at C to themselves. Maybe Varajao would get a couple there, but very few.

That leaves Varajao to get a lot of minutes at PF, throw in Powe and you have almost all the minutes at PF gone, too bad for JJ and Darnell. That's not even throwing Lebron or Moon at PF where they will no doubt get minutes. The way it is now is that when Powe comes back there will be pretty much 0 minutes for JJ and Jackson, no matter how well they play in the beginning of the season. We dont need Joe Smith (even though I like him alot).

Great signing though. If Powe recovers great he'll be worth much more than his contract and be one of the best backup PFs in the league. And we have amazing depth and versatility now...

Mo/ Boobie/ Delonte
Delonte/ Parker/ Green/ Boobie
Lebron/ Moon/ Parker
Varajao/ Powe/ JJ/ Darnell
Shaq/ Z/ Varajao

That's 13 players there who all could get minutes this year, and at least 10 who would get good minutes on ANY team in the league.

^The reason I want Smith is Shaq or Z will inevitably miss games. In that situation Varejao is the backup C and PF minutes will be available (Varejao himself for that matter is somewhat injury prone)

You could argue JJ is good enough to step in to that role but we don't know that for sure. Smith would be Vet insurance that could step in and produce.

Very interesting signing. I hear he was really ticked off with the Celtics. That's why he didn't go with the Lakers. He wants to knock Boston out in the conference finals. He gives you guys arguably the most depth and versatility off the bench out of anyone in the East. I hope LeBron liked the signing. Its very low risk (2 years at the league minimum).

The reason we need to be so deep is because of the trading pieces. If someone becomes available, Bosh, Biedrins, Amare, etc then wehave the pieces to put something together and make a trade. If Bosh demands to be traded to the Cavs or he walks in the offseason then I think Toronto would be more inclined to do it if they can feel they can at least get a little value.

Celtics fan here. I think this is a great signing for the Cavs. Leon is going to be a fan favorite as soon as he's healthy. The guy plays hard and you can tell he doesn't take anything for granted. I'm gonna miss him on the Celts and I'll be rooting for him to do well with you guys. I wish we could've kept him.

this is a very underrated move. im glad the cavs added GOOD role players to the positions that they got exposed at. this is the most talented roster the Cavs have had if JJ develops when powe is still down cavs could get really scary.

Couldn't have hoped for more, though it would have been nice if the Cavs could have added a bit more athleticism and offense to the front court. They played the and they were dealt though, and got a low risk high reward type player!!
