Richardson trade talk

Post#1 » by tvwolves7 » Wed Aug 12, 2009 1:30 am

#Timberwolves introduce Kurt Rambis. Look for Quentin Richardson to be soon traded to his fifth team this summer, perhaps yet this week

http://twitter.com/jerryzgoda

If this becomes true, who do you see us getting? I find it hard to believe because, most likely we would get multiple pieces back since QRich has such a large contract. And if you recall besides getting out of Telfairs 2nd year, Kahn wanted to move three small contracts for one large contract and to go back to getting two or more pieces seems to be counter-productive.

Also, would it be a trade for expirings and expirings or would he be moved for a player with multiple years on his contract?

I am not the best at finding the players that would fit possible trades, but maybe Shrink or others can show us their thoughts.

Im sure i read somewhere that Kahn says we arent going to make a move for a "star" or big name player this year, just ride out with what we have.

hope its one of those 1 sided salary relief trades that make not only the fans of the ripped off team mad, but all other fans too because their team didnt get to make that deal

like Q for Josh Smith or Gerald Wallace or something like that, i would cheer

I know many won't like this, but what about Richardson for Hinrich?

the problem i had with getting him before was having to give up Miller and stuff for him. With Rubio looking like he probably won't come over yet, and only having to give up Q who really won't help much. I think this would be a great idea. Even if Flynn can start right away, i'm ok with him on the court to defend the SG spot too.

Exactly. I think his defensive flexibility would really help us.

Hinrich makes ZERO sense at this stage ... his defense is adequate - nothing more.

These are the transactions involving Quentin this summer, and presumably, the market for him (his contract) is very similar now:

# June 25, 2009: Traded by the New York Knicks to the Memphis Grizzlies for Darko Miličić and cash considerations.
# July 17, 2009: Traded by Memphis Grizzlies to the Los Angeles Clippers for Zach Randolph.
# July 20, 2009: Traded by Los Angeles Clippers to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Sebastian Telfair, Mark Madsen, and Craig Smith.

I don't expect any miracles.

I was on board with the Hinrich idea when we had Miller, Foye, and others on the roster that could contribute. Now that our current plan is gut the roster, free cap space, acquire picks, lose now, and run with the ball, how does getting Hinrich make sense???? Especially since we have a budding point guard controversy already...

I don't know who is going to trade for Q. There just are not a lot to work with.

Below I listed the teams that I think would have even a remote chance of being a destination for Q.
I'm wondering if Q and Atkins will be combined in some way to help reduce the lux tax for one of these teams.

some cap/lux numbers (players of note)
LAL 91.3M (Ammo 5.2M, Farnar 1.9M)
UT 81.7M (Harping 6.5M
PHX 77.9M
NO 77.6M (Daniels 6.6M, Butler 3.9M)
WAS 76.0M (Mike James 6.4M)
HOU 72.8M (Cook 3.5M, Hayes, 2.1M, Barry 2.0M
MIA 71.4M (Haslem 7.1M, Jones 4.3M)

below lux threshold:
MIL 68.1M (Ridnour 6.5M, KT 3.8M)
CHI 67.8M (J James 6.6M)
NJ 57.6M (Simmons 11.2M, Battie 6.6M, Alston 5.2M, Hassell 4.3M)

Maybe Q & Atkins to the Hornets for Daniels, Butler & Wright.

the only issue with Hinrich is his contract which does get better as the years go on. Vet backcourt player, can run an offense, I'd say with the way he played in the playoffs and down the strech last year his defense is still better than adequate. He'd get PT here if Flynn is ready or not and he's young enough to still have gas in the tank.

There are a couple things I really like about Hinrich:

1. He has shown the ability to play off the ball.
2. He doesn't need to have the ball to be effective.
3. He can play with a ball dominant point guard.
4. He can guard the opponent's best perimeter player.
5. He is a veteran point guard.

If Rubio does not come over, would you rather he run our offense or either Brown or Atkins?

if Rubio does come over, who would you rather have guarding the offguard. Ellington or Q?

Pay close attention starting at 2:00. I don't see Q or Wayne doing that.

IMO we should just play him a moderate amount of minutes and just save the money with him expiring. Unless he causes problems in the locker room he should be a decent rotational player til he expires.

Pay close attention to the amount of 2010 cap space being eaten up. I don't see Q or Wayne doing that.

I choose option "C" - Whichever off-guard we end up drafting, trading for, or signing next off season, because this year is a throw away season that doesn't matter anyway.

***pure speculation**

3 way deal with qrich going to denver for their soon to expire iverson tpe which is moved for a resigned rudy gay. draft picks included. denver gets a big exp to move as well as rotation guy to replace kleza (sp) mem is going to move rudy here they get instant cap as well as draft space.

wolves get gay

props go to snp

i just went over to Canis and read what you mentioned. I'd be happy with we could get a TPE for Q.
