According to Woody, as (Please Use More Appropriate Word) of a basketball writer he is...

Last month I was saying hello to Wally as he came off the course in a celebrity-athlete golf tournament in Lake Tahoe, and he said:

"What's going on with Kleiza?"

I'm still obtuse, but not as naive.

Linas Kleiza, who played with the Nuggets last season, was an unrestricted free agent small forward.

Wally Szczerbiak, who played with the Cavaliers last season, was an unrestricted free agent small forward.

"Have you talked with the Nuggets?" I asked Szczerbiak, who was the sixth overall pick in the NBA draft in 1999.

"Yes, they seem very interested in me, and I'd love to play in Denver. The Nuggets fit my style of play, and they're a championship contending team. I was impressed with all they did last year. But it depends on Kleiza."

Kleiza has signed to play for Olympiakos — two years, $12.2 million.

It's Greek to me.

Szczerbiak recently turned down a contract offer from his dad's team — Real Madrid, not the Pittsburgh Condors.

So, there you go.

I used to hate the **** out of Szczerbiak, going back to his days in Minny when they were the closest thing to our 'rivals', but I'm all for bringing him. He'd can provide decent outside shooting with very mediocre defense... so pretty much everything Kleiza could do.

Whatever the minimum is for a 10 year vet. Basically whatever we paid Carter last year. It would be slightly less for GG or any other younger guy, given that they haven't been around as long....but I don't think that should really be the deciding factor. I don't think we need another young kid around this team, especially one like Green. Although there are a couple ways to look at it.

We're talking about a small backup role here. I personally prefer a vet like Wally to fill that void, as he'll generally be more consistent, have more experience, and probably be a better presence around the team. On the other hand some may prefer I young guy like Gerald Green who still has potential. He was highly regarded coming out of high school and was a high draft pick, and given that we're just trying to fill a small role, you could say why not take a chance on him? He has a ton of talent and the risk is relatively low, maybe he can still turn into a pretty good player....we've seen that personally with J.R. Smith. I can't argue with that logic, and I wouldn't be against it either. But I'd say for where are team is right now, being a pretty legit contender, I'd rather go with the safer bet....but I don't think it's a huge deal either way.

A couple other possible low risk high reward possiblilties: Rodney Carney, Mo Almond, Joey Graham, Rashard McCants, I also wouldn't mind getting a guy like Aaron Grey to close out the bench. You never really know when a change of scenery can change a guy's outlook and play.

Wally is gay. What kind of name is Wally? I only want gang members on our team. Preferably Piru bloods.
