For $1.359 million; $9000 more than this year's slot recommendation for the #20 pick but ultimately less than what slot at #20 was last year.

I expect everyone drafted in the first 6 rounds will sign.

As do I. Signing bonuses have been trending down in recent years...there isn't a tonne of upside for a guy like Paxton in holding out if the Jays are offering a bit above-slot (and I'd imagine they would have to be) unless Boras has him convinced that he'll go top-10 after his senior season.

**** your asterisk.

Re: Chad Jenkins Signs
JP deserves props if he can get the other three pitchers signed - James Paxton, Jake Eliopoulos and Jake Barrett . I think these guys and Jenkins all have a decent chance of making the majors and they'll move quickly through the system. With the graduation of Romero, Cecil and Zep, we need to restock quickly.

I'd expect Paxton to sign for $1.2 million. Thats well over slot (its 1st round money) but ultimately less than Jenkins. I'm sure Boras is asking for more, but I think thats what he ends up signing for.

Yeah, that sounds about right...it's a 10-12 pick premium over his slot, and if the MLB recommendations drop again next year (and with the economy, they well could) might be the equivalent of the haul a 20th-22nd pick will see.

**** your asterisk.

Re: Chad Jenkins Signs
"Update: We originally reported that Jenkins had signed for $9,000 over MLB’s slot recommendation, which we had estimated at $1.35 million, a 10 percent reduction from last year’s slot of $1.5 million. A Blue Jays source has informed us that their slot is actually $1.359 million."

Re: Chad Jenkins Signs
pretty disapointed that the 2 canucks didn't sign,,,everyone seems to be blamingJP.. but ****,the number 5 was signed above slot so you can be sure the they were also offered above slot. You would think that Paxton would have jumped at the chance to sign in his home and native land. Jake I could see wanting to maybe getting a few years of school in.
they should come out in the real world, i run crews of 60 to 100 guys and if I had to start hiring kids off the street and pay them extrordinary amounts of money because some day they MIGHT be a good to average or maybe great worker the company I work for wouldn't be in business for very long.
What has happened on some of the other teams were the numbers down across the league with the teams not being able to sign there higher picks or was it just here in TO that it happened?? I am really starting to agree with some of the other posters thinking the league really needs a salary cap or some sort of pay structure.Part of that comes from my homerizm and the thinking that we will never be able to compete with the hateful Yankees.
