Moment of truth coming soon for Chicago Bears' Nathan Vasher
He has to prove he still can be a force, as well as the secondary

Depth chart:
http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/fo ... 8112.story
Beekman beats out Omiyale for the starting Guard position.
Pisa/Williams/Roach listed as tri starters for Strong Side LB. Although, WIlliams it out with a shoulder injury. He's expected to play.
Dusty/Adams/Harrison all listed as starters at nose guard too. not sure that that means for the other DT position though.
Anderson listed as the backup for both DE spots so expect a rotation in there.
Louis is the back up for Pace. Not sure what that means...

Also, Craig Stelz is the fail. He got beat out not only by Afvala for the first string on Nickel defense, he's also been demoted to third string by Bullocks. Seriously?

Aw, hell no. Vick is pals with Dungy who's pals with Lovie. It's all making sense now.

I misread Fontel Mines as Matt Forte for some reason yesterday while looking at updates on Twitter. Had a minor heart attack.

If Cutler and receiving corps was already established with the team for a season, this would actually be terrifying me. As it stands, I see the Bears wanting to keep a lid on the amount of distractions and controversy around the team and offense so they can get off the ground as smoothly as possible. Vick wouldn't be worth it in the Bears situation just as a football issue. If I'm wrong and Vick becomes a Bear, I'll root for whoever plays the Bears every week. Lustily, I will boo the Bears and everything they stand for as long as Vick wears my beloved colors. And I've bleed blue and orange for decades no matter what city I live in. This would be a deal breaker. The only deal breaker i can think of. I CANNOT root for Michael Vick's team. No way mister. This transcends everything. I'm die hard, not die proof.

BTW, I'm not doubting Dungy's prediction about Vick signing with a team this week. Who knows? Could be. But I also wouldn't be surprised if he was trying to create something out of nothing either. An advocate like Dungy could be trying to create positive buzz out of thin air just like that if he was free to be outspoken (and desperately seeking a team/fish).

I guess Vick was in town for a charity appearance in Englewood. Had nothing to do with the Bears. Quite frankly, I wouldn't mind signing Vick. Signing him would only make us better. That being said, I won't be shedding any tears when we don't sign him.

I don't want to derail this thread, but football concerns have a limit in the universe of concerns. Football concerns do not exist in a vacuum. Not only that, as a pure football puzzle, I dispute that he makes the Bears better. First of all, he wasn't a great QB. Probably not even a good one. And he is not a leader at the premier leadership position. Thats the first problem(s). If you want to pursue some gimmickry well thats about the best thing you can count on. But as quarterbacks go, ironically he was a more and more like a dog than a work horse, former pun intended. About the only weapon the advocates have used is that he didn't have great players around him to help him out. Well that is excusemaking 101, and doesn't say much for a supposed impact player.

Mostly, lots of unnecessary baggage and distraction for a new offense (yes it will be pretty much new), QB, baby wide receiving corps. I think Vick's presence would be like adding a tragic 3 ring circus to a fledgling offense with a new franchise QB in Cutler who needs to hit the ground running fast. IMO, Vick costs the Bears a slow start minimum, and busts out of the NFL eventually regardless.

Wait what? When Michael Vick was last in the NFL (in 2006), he was a top 10 QB in the NFL. That being said, he more than likely won't be the same QB he was back then. And the introduction of the Wildcat formation turned a 1-15 Dolphins team into a playoff team in 1 season. The Dolphins started the year 0-32and introduced the Wildcat formation in their 3rd game against the New England Patriots. The Dolphins went 11-3 from that point on.

You know, I don't even have an idea about his stats when he played. Mostly, he was considered a loser. Stats are for fantasy leagues.

So then the Bears are to become a wildcat team? Great. Grand. Thanks a lot. Lets find the last non traditional offense to win a Superbowl. Better yet, lets find the last non traditional QB to win one. Next lets find the last gimmick offense to be worth a damn in the scheme of things. The Wildcat. Mercy. 'Lizebeth, I'm comin to join ya honey!

Yeah but he's just one of those practice squad guys that you pull for because they have potential.

Return to Chicago Bears
