OT- Just For Fun

Post#1 » by snaquille oatmeal » Wed Aug 12, 2009 9:37 pm

RoyceDa59 in the GB came up with the idea of rating the following teams if they were augmented with certain players in their prime. I came up with a rating system of 1 through 5 per player per team. how would you rate them?

some ground rules-

-must assume that non-fantasy players are healthy and at their current age and level of play (example-Shaq is not in his prime now so don't even consider him for a 5 rating regardless of how good you think he still is).

-the fantasy player will have to be rated in his prime and not as he is now.

-have fun with this.

Which is the best team?

Cleveland Cavaliers with a PRIME Dirk Nowitzki?

PG Williams 3 / Boobie 1
SG West 3 / Parker 3
SF LeBron 5 / Moon 3
PF Nowitzki 5 / Varejao 3
Cc Shaq 4 / Ilgauskas 3
team rating 33

Boston Celtics with a PRIME Alonzo Mourning?

PG Rondo 4 / House 2
SG Allen 5 / T. Allen 3
SF Pierce 5 / Giddens 1
PF Garnett 5 / R. Wallace 4
Cc Mourning 5 / Perkins 3
team rating 37

LA Lakers with a PRIME Chauncey Billups?

PG Billups 5 / Fisher 3
SG Bryant 5 / Vujacic 1
SF Artest 5/ Walton 3
PF Gasol 5/ Odom 5
Cc Bynum 4/ Mbenga 2
team rating 36

Orlando Magic with a PRIME Chris Webber?

PG Nelson 5 / Johnson 3
SG Carter 5 / Pietrus 3
SF Lewis 5 / Barnes 3
PF Webber 5 / Bass 3
Cc Howard 5 / Gortat 3
team rating 40

San Antonio with a PRIME Dikembe Mutumbo?

PG Parker 5 / Hill 3
SG Ginobili 5 / Mason 3
SF Jefferson 4 / Finley 2
PF Duncan 5/ McDyess 3
Cc Mutumbo 5 / Ratliff 1
team rating 36

How would you rank these contenders?

Damn' Snack Attacka nice post homey, this is gonna take too much time right now, pass, I'll come back to it later. Looks like Beantown is #1 to me. Did Chauncey ever really have a prime? He plays the same every year it seems

THis brings me to a question I was going to post on the GB....is Chauncey a HOF'r? cuz the other guys are for sure. I think we kind of get screwed with the chauncey add. How about prime GP or Kidd or Nash? Then Lakers.

the triangle was to complicated for GP and Nash needs to run to be effective + no defense. Chancey is the better fit.

I would have to think about it but I know the Lakers are still hands down first. Also good pick with Billups out of all the pg's.

1.Lakers
2.Celtics
3.Cavs
3.Spurs
5.Magic

Not sure the rest.

Orlando has a sick team but no lock down defenders or doe or die closers. They'd have a lead going into the fourth and then they would just dribble around in circles and crash into each other.

Nice thread, I'll jump in.

I think John Stockton would have made a nice fit as a PG in the Triangle Offense.

Magic Johnson and Oscar Robinson would be nice fillers for our Point Guard position as well.

Billups isn't a slouch but those three aforementioned Points would've made good/great fillers as well.

It comes down to chemistry and talent... and the safe bet would be Stockton.

IE1- Chemistry:
Good decision making, well conditioned, reliable, team player, etc.

IE2- Talent/Skillset:
-Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe he's the reigning leader in steals and assists.
-Shoots 50%+ from the field.
-Money from the free throw line.
-Plays very well off the ball.
-High Assist-To-Turnover ratio.

IE3- Sample Statline:

17.2pts 2.6rbs 14.5ast 2.7stls 0.2blks .514%FG .416%3PT .819%FT 3.5TO

Now if we're talking about combo guards - not just point guards...

Lets not forget Jerry West, The Logo.

If he wanted to be a combo guard PG/SG for the Triangle Offense, he'd fit well as well.

It goes without saying Jerry West and the three points I mentioned above are all Hall of Famers.

That matchup will come down to coaching. ;)

While we're at it, we might as well mention Pistol Pete.

Since we're talking fantasy here, the results can't be measured.

So yeah, anything goes.

It'll come down to coaching; all these teams got the talent.

2004 finals MVP prime

Hm.

But does that mean he's been going downhill ever since?

He's in his prime right now - if stats are any indication. (I believe he dropped his best stat-line this year; especially in the playoffs)

If results (championships) are what you're talking about, among other things, then you're right.

His '03-'04 season was his most successful season.

His Finals stats were a bit inflated due to an aging GP and a deflated roster (injuries to Rick Fox, Karl Malone, Deaven George, unsigned Robert Horry, Kobe's trial, Shaq's toe, etc.)...

Much like how Paul Pierce's FINALS MVP stats were inflated due to him having to guard and attack Vladimir Radmonovic & Sasha (LOL).

Billups gets half his points from three-pointers, and the other half on And1's. (continuation shots & free throws).

His style of play kinda reminds me a lot of Stockton and how he used to kill the Lakers in the mid-late 90s until Phil Jackson came to coach the Lakers; John Stockton was in his late 30s and early 40s by then so it was "no contest" - they were supposed to lose.

Oh and yeah, a prime Billups would do good/great in the Triangle Offense.
