OT: Why do Sportscasters Need Pet Names for each other?

Post#1 » by canman1971 » Thu Aug 13, 2009 3:00 am

Hello Everyone, I am starting this thread because this is something that has bothered me for sometime and I am curious to see if I am alone and so on. So here it is,

Why do sports media personalities feel the need for stupid pet names based on their last name? For example, I just heard some dope on Sports Tonight refer to Tanguay as Tanger. Or how about when they refer to Felger as Felgy(i)? It just makes them look like complete morons and unprofessional. Maybe I just dislike them altogether, and I am nitpicking but that is what I think. End of mini-rant.

I think the pet names are coincidental.

When you're taking someone from behind, it's nice to have a pet name to whisper into their ear. Calling a loved one "Mr Tanguay" in the midst of sexual ecstasy can be a real passion killer. From there, it just carries over into their professional lives.

I agree and have lots of other problems with TV studio sports guys.

1) Why do they wear suits? Do you know anyone who dresses in suits to watch sports?

2) Why do they play bad rock music while they're talking or showing a graphic during a broadcast? What does bad music have to do with anything? It's distracting.

3) Why are there moving graphics in the background on so many sets, as well as way too many colors and screens? I want to watch or hear about sports, not watch flashing lights. Simplify your sets!

4) Why don't any of these guys understand the salary cap?

5) Why do they chronically interview each other when none of them has any information justifying that behavior? Why not interview someone who does have information?

I could go on and on, but that's enough for right now...
