Likely done with offseason moves????????
How can grunfeld say that, when you have all of these guards just sitting around.
We have 10.3 mil (hoopshype) sitting there to be traded and I'm talking about
Deshawn Stevenson and Mike James. I'm not sure what to go after but for 10.3 mil
in salaries you can find something. Here's the thing about grunfeld and I know a lot of folks on this site thinks he's great. grunfeld gets to happy with making just ONE move. The wiz is not a team that is in need of just one player. The bottom line is that Grunfeld needs to be more aggressive and stop
waiting for something to fall in his lap.

Maybe because there's no good players available. The best time to trade expirings is near the deadline when teams shop wanted players.

We don't know how the season will unfold its best to hold on to them because were not sure what type of offers we may encounter around January. And I think were good enough to compete with this roster even barring injuries.
Sit back and watch WALL WORK!! >:-)

But when will it come a time when wiz management and wiz fan's stop thinking just trying to compete and let's win championships?

because nobody is going to trade for our contracts right now
we're basically done with our moves, unless something presents itself that is a sure thing
aside from that, i'm sure ernie will be making calls come the trade deadline.

Nobody wants James and Stevenson. In order to trade those guys for better players, we'd have to be acquiring better players with even worse contracts, and even then, it's not like we're going to get star players for those contracts. We're already in luxtax territory so it's not likely that we'll take on more salary for a mild upgrade at 10th man.

That's right oxford knolls is off of suitland road.
On the part of waiting until the deadline I just hope that we don't wait to long.
Here the thing we need to come out off the top and start winning some games because
every team looks good on paper right now.

We aren't making any more moves this season period -- barring injury. We will start winning, and the excuse will be we don't want to destroy chemistry. How do you know that, ba? Experience. This management won't take the risks needed to win. Trading on a winning record, to them, is a risk. It won't happen. If I'm wrong, I'll jump up and down and run the streets naked. I'm not wrong.

Re: Likely done with offseason moves????????
What nate said is accurate -- no one wants James or Stevenson. By my count, Oberto is new player #3 this offseason. Not counting getting Arenas and Haywood back.
And no, every team doesn't look good on paper right now. Have you looked at Minnesota's roster? Memphis? Sacramento?

Re: Likely done with offseason moves????????
There is a good time to trade expiring contacts, and now probably isnt it. Most teams are waiting to see how they will pan out. That means they are not going to make big trades. We need a trading partner willing to get rid of a big man, and without the trading partner it will be hard to make a trade. So, best to wait till those expirings have their greatest value for the team. Lets see what this team will look like on the court before we get rid of our valuable bargaining chips.

The person who started this thread needs to look at what was said in the transcript. EG said if a good deal comes along he will make it. EG is a good gm and won’t make a move unless it improves this team. The team improved this off season there’s not going to be any lateral movement. My only concern is the attitude of some of the players on this team. I don't see some guys sitting on the bench quietly and that could create some negativity in Saunders locker room.

Re: Likely done with offseason moves????????
I had a vision last night... We were deep in the playoffs ( second round - that's deep for us ), and Gil is only 70% and is a liability at the point. So old Flip activates Sam I Am on a 10 day contract, who has been playing with the kids all season getting them ready. So Sam I Am comes in real nice and smooth and we take it to the Conference Finals where we collapse and make little kid mistakes that no one on these boards will ever forget.
Two Ernie is looking to dump DSteve & MJ contracts, he is just waiting for the right deal and or time. Everyone is looking to clear space for next year we could pickup a major piece if we play our cards right. And until Gil is back on the court pimping it out like yesteryear it's good to have veteran back ups who know your team and system. DSteve might comeback to form and reclaim Mr. 50, but I wouldn't mind seeing him go like the do-do. His antics and "swag" are just a little too childish for me, money and women really go to some peoples heads. Also they say they want to play Foye at the point, but in Min he was much more efficient at the two, it might not work out. So let it play out and then make a move.
Three Oh Boy Oberto will be playing more than we would like, but his veteran defense will hold it down for solid wins. Lets hope McGee can find his place on the court by the break.
Four BTH will finally get the respect he has been searching for and all the while he'll be quoted "See I told you, just give me consistent minutes and I'll produce" and then he'll try to spit in the Poets eye with some messed up comment. 32min, 12points, 9boards, 2blocks
Overall Summer Moves: B+

Re: Likely done with offseason moves????????
Most everyone agree on the most readily expendable players, Stevenson and James, due to their limitations and the abundance of guards. I didn’t hate James’ game, but never saw much of a place for him here. Stevenson of two and three years ago had a place on this team, and if he’s able to recover his shooting and tenacity, he still offers something.
Trading these two, separately or together, should bring back some combination of healthy talent upgrades, usable big men, no contracts beyond this year, or lower overall salaries. The unlikely best-case scenario brings all of that, but if the Wizards can’t get the right deal now, they’ll have some time to see how the team gels and what its needs are, how much Stevenson and James demonstrate value, and what teams around the league need.
Grunfeld’s patience allows the possibility for greater return. Unless Stevenson makes a near-full recovery, I doubt that he or James, or anyone Grunfeld might trade them for, would make a huge contribution this year, so I can wait patiently to see what develops. I’m just impatient for the season to start.

Hmmm...nate already talked about trading James+cash at the deadline to a team with cap space. How about trading James+Stevenson+cash to a team in need of guard help to a team with a large expipring? It's the same concept, only we get the luxury tax savings next year instead of this year.

Would you do?
James/Stevenson
for
Jeffries/ Robinson(resigned)
or
James/Stevenson/Haywood
for
Jeffries/Mobley(insurance covers 80% of salary)

The Wiz have no need for either of those players, so we would just be throwing money away and jeapordizing being able to re-sign our own FAs next summer.

One of the worst trades I have ever seen proposed on this board. Seriously. I mean, why stop there? Let's throw in Gilbert Arenas for Eddy Curry.

Where or how did you come up with this trade? Could you give some other reason for why you sound like your on drugs or just pissing into the wind?

I saw that first one and liked it (I'm impressed by the trade ideas that come from this board) and even though I like the idea of a recovered Stevenson, moving his contract is fine if it helps the team next year, especially if the returning expiring was a big with six fouls (and an occasional blocked shot to offer.
King 30 wrote:James/Stevenson/Haywood

Wild trade idea, essentially "If you throw in your starting center and best defensive player, we'll upgrade from Robinson to Mobley, who will never play again."
It does make me wonder (and I'm sure someone on this board knows the answer) about Mobley's salary and the part supposedly covered by insurance. Do those circumstances have any impact for trade and cap purposes, or is it treated like any other expiring?
I could see the James/Stevenson for Jeffries/ Robinson trade if Robinson was just an expiring and the salaries matched.
