The fact is, we'd probably be dealing with this no matter who we took at 9. I can't lay this on Raji. But, it sucks that an impact player like Raji isn't in camp yet.

The problem with changing it is that you can't limit the amount a young player makes in a league where you might only last 1 year because of injuries. It's not like basketball where if you are good enough, you will have a 10 year career. In the NFL, if you are good enough as a running back you will run so much you will be done by the time you're 28.

The only thing that needs to be changed is the 1st round, especially at the top. The guys at the top are some of the highest paid players in the league as rookies. Stafford got the most guaranteed money of any player in NFL history with his contract.

I don't buy that argument. A guy could only play in the NBA for one year because of injuries. That's a part of any sport. If a guy is a stud RB, and let's say he is pretty much done by the time he's 28, he's most likely signed a big contract before then anyway, so he's gotten paid.
When you have guys who haven't played a down making more money than established, very good vets in the league, that's a problem, and that's exactly what the NFL has, Stafford is a perfect example.

The last player drafted in the NBA's first round gets about 2 million guaranteed. If football came up with something like that, but on a scale that fits the NFL, that would be great.
If you are not smart enough or too wasteful to live the rest of your life on 2 million dollars, then you are pretty worthless to begin with.
