how did he gaurd the quicker pf's such as lewis and odom?

I don't remember his defense on those particular players, but he moves his feet well, uses his length to contest most shots. He's good at guarding face-up 4s who like to pump-fake and drive from 15 feet. His problem against players like Lewis and Odom would be on drives from the 3-pt line as he's not THAT quick, and keeping track of them off-ball when they work off screens or float out to the 3-pt line.

If the report that he's out to get revenge against the C's is true, then I take back what I said about wishing him all the best and replace it with a big **** YOU Leon.

It makes me laugh at all those who say the Celtics treated Powe poorly or they acted "bush league." Get real! The NBA is a business. Leon was a 2nd round pick for a reason...Knee problems. And guess what? They haven't gotten better; they have gotten worse. Also, he has made more money from the Celtics than most teachers, like myself, will make in a lifetime. So, I am sorry if I have little pity for a guy who gets paid lots of money to play a game even when he cannot play. Boo Freaking Hoo!!!!

Pity? Powe is better then S. Williams. I would have liked to have kept him. As one of those rare Celtic young players who came through when it counted and was instrumental in our championship I would think he would get some love. It's not HIS fault you choose a poorly paying profession..or whatever.

I would have liked to keep Powe because he is such a good guy and hard worker, but you have to consider that the Celtics had their own doctor do the operation on his knee. I would guess the doctor wasn't optimistic about his return, for this year at least.

We offered Powe the same deal that he ended up signing with Cleveland. Straight from DA's mouth:

The executive director of basketball operations also said that he raised the possibility of signing Powe to a veteran’s minimum two-year contract with a team option in the second year - the very deal Powe just signed with Cleveland - but that the forward rejected the idea.

well from the wiretap
“I think that his preference would have been to stay with Boston,” Powe’s agent Aaron Goodwin said by telephone on Wednesday. “That didn’t work out.

so one of them has to be wrong

"No, maybe later.. we'll talk"

"Yo Leon, wanna come to cleveland?"

"Uh, yeah alright"

"Wait wait Leon, Boston wants you"

“Shaq is one of the greatest players of all time and ‘Bron is going to be right there in that category,” Powe said. “Those are two great personalities. That’s the fun thing about playing with guys like them. They’re easy to get along with and it’s easy to play with them.”

By remaining in the Eastern Conference, Powe might not have to wait long for a reunion against his old team. The Cavaliers and Celtics are likely to again be two of the top teams in the Eastern Conference, and Powe admits he’s already dreaming of a postseason meeting.

“If that happens, that’s going to be fun for me,” he said. “I know Boston is a challenge, but our team, the Cavaliers got better and we’ll take on all challengers.”

Powe will come back this year and hurt the C's IMHO. He has a great work ethic. I am really shocked they went ahead and signed Shelden Williams over him. That's just dumb. Williams likely won't play and before you know it Powe will be back..

Oh boy.

Yes Leon is a beast and he has a ton of heart and puts out a lot of effort....

But what was his knock coming into the NBA. Undersized and knee issues

Well look what happened again. You can't keep having surgeries and expect to keep playing at the same level. I liked Leon and wanted us to retain him but don't act like he's gonna break out and have an impact year when he returns. He'll barely play. He'll probably have another injury soon after he returns. It's too bad...but it's reality.

Pete, I agree completely. This was one of the few instances which Danny completely overplayed his hand.

However, I'm not sure how much it'll come back to hurt the Cs--we do have a great frontline right now, so we'll not be hurt by not having him. Conversely, I'm not sure how much Leon plays for the Cavs next season--I think he's a good fit next to Big Z, but next to Shaq, not so much. I also think Andy V. and JJ Hickson are pretty good players--and with a half season head start, I don't know how much opportunity they'll be for Leon once he gets healthy. Don't forget, Lebron actually plays a lot of PF for Cleveland too, which is why the overstocked on small forwards this offseason. Of course, any injury in the frontline might open things up for Leon, but still I think his impact on the Cavs, if any, will come in 10-11 season.
The leaks are real...the news is fake.

I'm just here for the memes.

We definitely didn't treat him bush league or unfairly - if its needed for clarifications none of my previous posts were meant to infer that.

If our medical staff thinks there's a good chance he's done in which case Danny probably played this perfectly. If we are almost sure he is out for the entire season, Danny probably could have played this better but hindsight is 20/20. But, there's a big difference between "fair" and "smart" and there are certain decisions that winning franchises tend to make and which help to foster a winning environment (and vice versa).
