No link yet, Mortensen just reported it on the Steelers/Cardinals preseason game.

One of the last teams I'd expect.

Well that can end that discussion. I would've been fine with adding him but at the same time it may not have been worth all of the media crap and distraction. Its not like he would've been on the field that much.
And for the record, I hate Philadelphia sports and their fans. So they boo everybody, VERRRRY cool...

Re: Vick Signs w/Eagles
I'm anxious to see our preseason games just to see how much Flynn and Brohm still suck.
If they're as brutal as they were in last year's preseason, we have to sign a backup before the start of the regular season. Right?

Damn.
That might be the last team I'd expect to see Vick sign with.

Re: Vick Signs w/Eagles
Here's to hoping Brohm and/or Flynn can show us something this pre-season.
If Brohm & Flynn don't show drastic improvement from last year,we all know the drill from last season.... we are obviously toast if Rodgers goes down for any length of time.
Hell with Brohm & Flynn out there we are toast if Rodgers misses a quarter.
We probably win that Buccaneer game last year if Flynn could have at least picked up 2 first downs late in the 4th with us up 21-20 when Rodgers couldn't go.

Re: Vick Signs w/Eagles
A decision on #2 QB has to be made within the next 10 days. Because Flynn is our holder. If he's not the #2 QB then we have to have another holder, whether it's Brohm (or whoever is #2) or the punter. What we can't do is change holders a few days before the season starts like we did last year.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I think it will be Flynn
Watching the lack of arm strength and mobility of Brohm last year, i was strongly concerned for his future. The fact that his confidence got rattled so badly also was troubling. I thought he needed to have a fabulous camp to move past Flynn and from what i've read at least, he hasn't looked that good so far. Barring a couple of great preseason games from Brohm, i don't see him doing anything this year except hold a clip board.

Flynn will be #2 qb and holder. Brohm is garbage. Should of dealt him to the 49ers or Titans.

I shudder to think what you would have done with Rodgers after his first year.

Rodgers looked bad, but he still had the raw tools of a good arm and some mobility to work with. Brohm moves around like he has ankle weights on and his arm isn't nearly as good as Rodgers is.

Or Favre in Atlanta.

Aaron Rodgers threw like a girl (literally) and looked just as bad as Flynn and Brohm.
If you judge QBs by their first couple of years in the NFL, especially their first preseason, you are making a mistake. They could both very well turn out to be terrible, but they do have talent and could very well turn into good players as well.

Re: Vick Signs w/Eagles
I liked NFL.com's comparison of Brohm to Brees.
Obviously, Brees is an MVP caliber QB and Brohm may be out of the league in three years. But neither has a cannon, neither is loaded with tools. But neither height or a big arm is required to make it in the NFL. I'm light years away from declaring Brohm a bust I think he'll surprise this pre-season.

Re: Vick Signs w/Eagles
Rodgers looked terrible his first pre-season but he did show a flash here and there to give us a little hope. I'd put Flynn in that category if you want to compare him to Rodgers,Flynn looked terrible last pre-season but he did show some flashes to give us hope.I'd expect him to improve and if he does he will be on his way to being a competent back up to Rodgers.
Unless Flynn really made strides though we should sign a vet QB for our #2.
Brohm on the other hand last pre-season looked like some random guy they dragged out of Curly's pub and told him to go play QB.He was awful.
But you never know, like you some of you guys say you can't really judge a QB in his first pre-season,even if really is terrible.
Hell even Favre didn't look all that great his first pre-season with the Packers in '92.

Obviously it's not a 100% lock that Brohm can't get quite a bit better and have a solid NFL career, hell, tiny no armed Ty Detmer lasted eight years. It's also very true that tons of QB's struggled badly in their rookie season, only to be fine later. The jump from college ball to the NFL is probably the biggest at the quarterback position. Not probably, it is. The speed of the game is so much faster, the players are bigger at each position, the playbooks are much larger, and the defenses they face are more complex. Their heads are spinning as rookies.
I'm not saying we should cut the guy, i guess it just comes down to that i was a lot more troubled from what i saw overall in Brohm than you were last preseason and thus the odds i feel those shortcomings will hamper him long term. Near immobile quarterbacks who also have mediocre arm strength face significantly more obstacles in having success in the NFL than others who don't have that mix of physical shortcomings.
Yea there are the exceptions in todays football of successful pure pocket passers that have little to no athletic ability/foot speed to at least avoid the pass rush, but generally those are bigger strong guys that also have a good arm. The list of mediocre armed little to no foot speed types who have been successful the last 10-15 years isn't long.
You bring up Rodgers, sure he looked terrible. He also came into the NFL with a stronger arm than Brohm and significantly more ability to both avoid the rush in the pocket and throw on the run. Sure McCarthy really had to spend time refining the pure physical skills of Rodgers given his first year struggles, but the arm and mobility was there to be refined. McCarthy can't teach Brohm to not have cement feet in the pocket or teach the guy to throw well on the run and make big plays from that because a QB needs certain physical abilities/gifts to do certain things. There is a reason that NFL teams so often use higher draft picks on raw physically gifted young QB's over more productive in college, but less physically gifted quarterbacks. You can only teach so much to guys that can't move and also lack a big arm. Granted though, no doubt that here and there guys in the Brohm mold are productive in the NFL.

Reasonably fair comparison. While Brohm has a size advantage, Brees moves around a lot in the pocket so much better. What i want to see most from Brohm this year is how he looks when pressured. You don't have to have a QB that runs for first downs in todays NFL, but a quarterback has to be otherwise very talented to be able to thrive while being a statue in the pocket. Brohm doesn't have a complete noodle for an arm, he has enough there to play in the NFL. It was his looking like he was moving in mud that concerned me the most, then mixed with the mediocre arm that left me thinking, that's why he was still there late second round as other QB needy teams passed.
Hope to be very very wrong about him though and Brohm does have a nice preseason. Rodgers is obviously the QB of the present and future here, but injuries often happen and we need one of the two backups to show McCarthy that he won't have to be terrified to call a pass play in games that count if Rodgers is out.

Re: Vick Signs w/Eagles
Well maybe it was good that the Pack didn't get Vick after all. NY Post is reporting that Vick was spotted drinking alcohol which is a violation of his reinstatement terms. Nice - maybe he really doesn't get it.
Who knows if anything will come of it, but still another distraction for this guy, and he's yet to play again.
EDIT: Now there is another report saying its not in violation. So may not be an issue I guess.

Vick has done at least one thing right in this whole ordeal.
That Goose and pineapple juice is delicious. I had to pick the stuff on the way home it sounded so good. Enjoying the first of a few tonight right now
