I am really excited about this but it seems BJ really won big. He received a 40% increase in salary over last year's 9th pick, I'm really surprised TT agreed to this. Hopefully BJ performs on the field now and holding out of camp doesn't set him back too much.

Raji reports in good shape

The most-asked question during the absence of Green Bay defensive lineman B.J. Raji -- other than, When will he sign? -- was whether he was keeping in shape while waiting for his agent and the Packers to finalize his rookie contract. After missing the first two weeks of training camp, would Raji need the same amount of time to catch up?

So far, so good. Raji said Friday that he passed a preliminary conditioning test and that he weighed in a bit lighter than when he left this spring. He won't get on the field until practice resumes Monday, but it's not out of the question that he could play the Packers' Aug. 22 preseason game against Buffalo.

Raji: "I know to play tomorrow is a little far-fetched. But as far as the next preseason game, hopefully I'll be able to play in that game and get a number of reps. ... It's not up to me. It's up to my coaches. So we'll see about that."

Raji said he was working out "four or five days a week" at Wisconsin's Bay View middle school during the early part of his absence. After leaving Green Bay last week, he resumed working out in Boston with his former college coach at Boston College.

There is a big difference between cardiovascular shape and football shape, the latter of which Raji will begin working on Monday. But if there were any fears he would report in bad shape, I think they've been allayed.
