Kevin Durant vs. Derrick Rose - The Franchise
Which of these players would you take to build your team around? Why?
Are both of these guys going to become bonefied superstars? Why not?

Re: Kevin Durant vs. Derrick Rose - The Franchise
A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Durant having further proven himself that Rose, why WOULDN'T you go with Durant? It is not as if he is limited by a ceiling, and neither is Rose, yet Durant at the moment is better. It's possible Rose surpasses him, but it's not likely.
As for your 2nd question: yeah. Because they're very good at basketball.

Re: Kevin Durant vs. Derrick Rose - The Franchise
I'm going with Derrick Rose. Even though Durant is the better player now, Rose had the better rookie season and I expect him to take a Durant type leap in year two.
They are both going to be great and I think they will be overall equal players who have equal potential, but I am taking the PG 10/10 over the SF.

Durant pretty easily. He's a better player player with a higher ceiling and a better personality.

Funny you said that. Not comparing him as a player to Mike, but Durant's demenor kinda reminds me of Jordan.

Re: Kevin Durant vs. Derrick Rose - The Franchise
I take Derrick Rose. I'm not so bought on that Durant won't just be an amazing scorer who never got a ring or made it deep into the playoffs. The way Rose played his rookie season was just crazy and usually a guy who can control his team with the ball in his hands means a little something more to me then a guy who is only good for 25 a night.

Right now its Durant pretty easily, and this comes froma huge D.Rose fan. Unless Rose make the kind of leap that Durant did next year, this shouldnt be much of an argument

These threads are premature..We don't know how good Rose will be as he only has one year under his belt, however, we do know how good Durant will be as he only has two years under his belt..Real GM is home of "what have you done for me now?" in which the more proven player will always receive the benefit of the doubt..Let's wait and see what strides Rose will make next year and then return to this comparison, shall we?

Despite Rose's playoff performance I still take durant on this one (although i'm obviously a homer). Rose can definitely be a franchise player though.

Re: Kevin Durant vs. Derrick Rose - The Franchise
Agree.
This is a little premature thread as most of the Star/Superstar players with big potential make big leap in their 2nd years (see ton of stars like LeBron/Wade/CP3/and Durant himself), since Durant already had that 2nd year under his belt where his hard work and dedication showed, why aren't we giving Rose that 2nd year to show how hard he has been working this offseason.
Matter of fact, Rose started his big time workout as soon as the Playoffs ended for Bulls. That is where the dedication to improve comes, that is where the stars/superstars separate themselves from others.
I see a HUGE and I mean HUGE leap from Rose this year and if we bring this thread up next summer, we will have much more clearer answer (actually, I take that back, it will be more fair on both sides then right now) coz it's Durant right now.
I personally would take Rose - this guy cares about winnin and will do everything in his power to win the game. He already has mentality to take over the game late in the 4th qtr and controls the game and tempo much better at this age already.
Also, I want to see if Durant can take that team any further now. Stats are good and all but eventually they won't mean jack unless he is taking that team on his back and leads it to the playoffs and further each year.
For example, you put Wade on that team and that would have been a playoff team without a doubt.

Re: Kevin Durant vs. Derrick Rose - The Franchise
I don't know how this thread is that premature. They're both young guys who have shown alot of promise. Durant has put up better numbers, but Derrick Rose as a rookie lead his team to a tough 7 game series against the defending Champions (KG or not it's still impressive).
Personally I would take the young prodigy at PG Derrick Rose because I just think he's the safer and more valuable pick.
Not all eventual superstars make the jump in their 2nd year. Dwight Howard in his 2nd year averaged 16 and 12 (he averaged 12 and 10 as a rookie out of HS). Everyone is different.
Durant is a stud and has put up #'s at a young age, but he obviously hasn't influenced his team (so far) the way Derrick Rose is doing.

I think Durant will be a top 5 player
I think Rose will be a top 5 point guard
So I'm going to go with Durant

Re: Kevin Durant vs. Derrick Rose - The Franchise
If we had done this after the completion of both of their rookie seasons, this would be Rose easily, and everyone would be bashing Durant.
That's why these threads are dumb.

Re: Kevin Durant vs. Derrick Rose - The Franchise
Derrick Rose has such a special ability to control a game and take it over at a moments notice. Durant has the same ability to take over a game, but he doesn't have the feel Rose has. Both players have tremendous attitudes. Both have fabulous work ethics, and love the game of basketball.
These guys are 2 of my favorite players in the NBA. I honestly can't decide. I guess id take Rose right now BUT........I'm downright giddy at the thought of Kevin Durant at the age of 25, I am not sure we are all ready for what he will do to the league. Durant has a killer instinct very similar to Kobe, excpet he doesn't have a huge ego. On the other hand Rose has a Larry Bird like mentality of doing whatever it takes to win. So tough....
