Just saw it on ESPN. No details on the contract yet, but this is very good news.

Great news if true. I think Smith compliments our current big rotation very well. If we get a decent young C prospect (Sims and Siler are 2 that we've been associated with the most) then we'll have a very nice team.

Fantastic... we go ahead and sign Siler, and I'll be quite pleased with this offseason. Resign JJ for 70% of the max, and I'll be amazed.

Wow, that is a lot. I don't mind overpaying a little to guarantee that we get him. Hell, I don't even mind overpaying a lot, it's not my money. But it seems like we overplayed a lot.

I don't think it's $4.8M per. It's far more likely that it's $4.8M total.

That's more years and money than the Cavs can offer.

I don't think that's a whole lot for him , i was expecting him to demand around 2 mil and higher. Only thing that surprised me was the 3 years and i think they had to offer him that to lower the salary. Good job Sund and Hawks now sign Siler/Hart and maybe give someone like Pops Mensa bonsu a shot and i'm seriously taking this franchise as a legit at least respectable Eastern Con. darkhorse.

Sign Siler
Sign Pops Mensah Bonsu
Extend Joe for 70% of max

Sund is on fire this offseason. He has not overpay to keep our core players. Now he added a solid big off the bench at a great price tag. If for whatever reason we need to move him. His contract will be easy to move. Let get JJ sign so we don't have to worry about a team like the Knicks coming after JJ after the miss out on the top FAs.

After a really bad day I needed some good news. A one year deal is what I wanted and nothing more.

Still no article posted by the AJC? Wow, they just continue to fail.

The hawks are having a good offseason??!?!?!?!?

Is the end of the world coming? Crap for Crawford, solid draft, signed a decent big...it just doesn't feel right.

ESPN reports 1 yr at the vet minimum. If true, that's great.

This has been an excellent offseason. We've retained our main core from last season, plus added a very good piece off the bench in Crawford, drafted our PG of the future, and added depth inside. I'm very satisfied. Now I hope we can get something done with Joe, so we don't enter the next offseason nervous about losing our best player.

And the team has one more year of experience with no big changes. And Hawks still own the rights to Childress.

Letting Andersen go doesn't look so bad now because Joe Smith is a guaranteed thing and he costs less.

Return to Atlanta Hawks
