OT - Raul Lopez

Post#1 » by Jugoplastika89-90-91 » Fri Aug 14, 2009 11:19 pm

I just thought about former Jazz player, Raul Lopez.

What do you think of him? His game, his performances?

What is your impression now when you remember those times?

He was always hurt and undersized. Frankly I have almost completely forgotten his game despite watching almost every game. You didn't dread the minutes he would get but he wasn't spectacular either. He probably has had more success in Europe.

He was a pretty solid back-up in his time here. Heady... decent jumper, tried to play defense... and every once in awhile would show the athleticism/speed that made him a first round pick. Sadly, any upside/ability to play a full NBA schedule he had was killed with the knee injuries. For some reason, the play that sticks out in my mind from his time in a Jazz uni was a sick move to the basket where he crossed and contorted his body then jumped off the wrong foot to get passed his defender in an AMAZING display of quickness and body control, only to be called for traveling by the POS referee who clearly couldn't comprehend what he was seeing.
Brevity is the soul of wit.

He is having a so so carreer here in Spain. Injuries killed him, but he was the second best player in Spain. He had more talent than Calderon, for example, but he had bad luck.

I agree with FJS. López had HUGE talent. Just bad karma.

He was my favorite player on the team when he was the back up for Arroyo and healthy. I loved his game. He went from being a skinny Johnny Depp wannabe to a chubby looking little guy who played his heart out.

What I liked about him is he was just so happy to be here despite all of his injuries.

He had some sweet highlights.

I really remember being excited for that opening dunk.

He was really really good his one healthyish year. That was the Arroyo, Lopez, Mo Williams PG core. He was a master of splitting traps on the pick n roll. I liked him a lot. Really a tragedy that he couldnt stay healthy.
