Next Year's Predictions

Post#1 » by Donerik » Mon Aug 3, 2009 9:14 pm

I always like predictions sure to go wrong on Mike and Mike and I was thinking, we need some.

More likely for a blog(or vlog) next summer:
You, me, and my shin with Tyler.
or
You, me, and my knee with Danny Granger.

More Likely
The return of Mike Dunleavy as our second leading scorer? (PPG after comeback)
or
The emergence of a new option?

Better Value
McBob
or
Solo

Better 3pt Percentage
TMurda
or
AFROTOP

More Likely to Remain the Starter
Hibbert(assuming he starts over foster)
or
AFROTOP

Neither (I think people are blowing both scenarios way out of proportion, especially Hansbrough)

The emergence of a new option (Rush will continue how he played at the end of last season)

McBob (he knows our system and knows he needs to succeed here because not many other teams will take the chance on him)

T-Murda (his looks will be wide open shots, therefore a higher %)

Rush (just my instinct)

Granger.
Emergence of a new option.
McBob.
T-Murda.
Hibbert, for lack of a better option.

I give Donerik 5 points for using "AFROTOP".

I agree with Dunthreevy in that neither Granger nor Tyler is going to have tremendous issues, but Granger is probably more likely since it is a recurring issue.

Rush is that new option, but I think that if he has another surprise season in him, Murphy could contend for #2, and even Hibbert, given enough minutes, can become our second-leading scorer.

I don't know anything about Solomon Jones, but McBob has more value to us.

Rush is confident, but Troy Murphy broke records last season. All of Murphy's attempts are open and line drives.

Hibbert has more of a chance to remain starter. He was already starter about twice as many times as Rush last season, and Dunleavy's return could always cause some lineup shuffling.

Granger - it seems more of a persistent injury especially if he comes back before he is 100%

Emergence of a new option- Dunleavey's days as the 1st or 2nd option are over, I believe. Dont forget how much TJ will have the ball/be creating plays, this isnt really a new option, but I see him being our other initiator next to Granger.

Im actually lean towards Solo Jones. McBob knows the system, but Jones was brought in for a reason - he's athletic and his shot-blocking on D - so in terms of that he could have a solid impact nightly off the bench. hey, the front staff must have seen something

definitely TMurda - gets a lot of open looks in transition/since he is a PF, and B-Rush doesnt strike me as ever being a great % 3 pt shooter over the course of the season. too many cold streaks.

Hibbert - if Rush dissapoints, then Dahantay Jones or eventually Dunleavey could start. but, even if Hibbert is still having issues w/ fouling, we will still just let him start and give us a few minutes before he has to come out.

It could be Granger and his knees, depending on how the rotation at sf would be.
Though, it's really possible to see Granger play almost 40mpg, i think Larry and Obie both know that the consequences could be pretty serious.
It could still be Junior with "You, Me, and next year's Free Agency".

Somebody will surely take over the scoring void caused by the loss of Jack, Daniels, and Dunleavy.
It could be Rush's and HIbbert's breakout seasons as starters.
It could be Ford's developing offensive game under Obie.

I think by a decent margin, it could be Solo. We needed interior defense more than another offensive option, and Solo fits the mold just right. Solo could see decent minutes at power forward and center positions.

Murphy could have a repeat of last season's stats at best, maybe a little less due to the addition of Psycho T, but still efficient nonetheless. He will still continue to have open looks at the basket from donwtown. Rush could double his treys per game, but that could also mean more shot attempts.
T-Murda could have a better 3pt percentage.

Obie will surely not put into waste the promise Rush displayed towards the end of last season. He will have solid minutes even until Dunleavy returns, and i can see him being the second scoring option next to Granger. And add to that the training he's been doing this offseason, i really do think he can be a big surprise.
Hibbert will probably be the starter. But i think Obie will give Hibbert the proper learning in the proper way. He will start, but Foster, Solo, anf maybe Murphy would most probably have half of the minutes at center, depending on the match-ups.

If McRoberts has added 20lbs of muscle, do you think he could ever play center, similar to the Birdman in Denver?

^^He doesn't have the shotblockiong ability to actually pull it off, I think. Maybe he can hold his own if he gets switched onto an opposing center, but I don't think he should be placed into a game for that reason.

I think McBob would be better offensively than defensively. He's really quick and athletic for his size and i can see Obie utilizing those whenever needed. I just don't think he's strong enough to bang bodies with Duncan, Jefferson, Amare, etc. He can be a good match for the bigger SF's though.
I'm still thinking Obie and Larry have plans of exploring the possibility of McBob being more of a 3 than a 4, just like Bender's unfulfilled role.. without the outside shooting though.

Depends on whether or not he can actually stay in the game or not. I imagine something like 11 pts, 6 rebs, 1 block.

^^He already averaged 1.1 blks in under 15 minutes last season. I'd give him 12/7/2 if he plays 25-30 minutes.

Yeah, still my concern also. While I do expect him to improve the situation, a reliable 30mpg would be a dream result for sure.

That and if Foster develops a three-point shot and Troy Murphy can suddenly play defense against Dwight Howard.
