Yep, I ran across that too. I love me some Pitchfork myself. Cool tune. I think my favorite stage prop in many a year (and many a year to come) is Wayne's set of swollen hands:

Not a problem, my man. Always happy to share. I have a couple crates full of my dad's vintage jazz 78s. Can't play 'um. Just called a used vinyl dealer about 'um. He wants to give me a chunk of change. Can't seem to bring myself to do it.

Wouldn't it be sweet if you could find a way to digitize all the content and THEN sell them to the dealer?

I recognize a bunch of these from my Ken Burns Jazz starter kit. I'm gonna go listen to some Monk now. That's the shizz. That and Ramsey Lewis' "in crowd."

There's an idea. But, it's not really the music that I can't part with (there's always CDs). It's more the packaging and sentimental value. My father was heavily into jazz and used to sing Cab songs about the house. Now that I'm thinking of it, perhaps I'll just put them under glass somehow -- either as a wall hanging or incorporate them into a table.

In terms of Monk, he's the g.o.a.t. jazz artist for me as well. Gotta love his use of dissonance and discord.

Completely forgot the upcoming Them Crooked Vultures album in my best rock album of the year calculation. Described by Dave as his next project that doesn't suck. Just from the 14 second clips, I'm saying it contends with Wolfmother and Clutch for best rock album of the year. Ladies and Gents the latest super group (Dave Grohl, Josh Homme and John Paul Jones) or "Them Crooked Vultures":

Yeah, I know the clips 'er short, so I'll round it out with a lil QOTSA w/ Dave:

Been hearing buzz about this new underground indie band -- Cavalier Rose. I see why. This song is killer:

Download their album free from their site. It's well worth it.

Expect this band to blow-up very soon.

I'm liking Them Crooked Vultures a lot. Songs for the Deaf is one of my favorite albums, so I'm extra pumped about the super-group. I'm hoping they succeed where others have failed at it.

Yeah, "Songs for the Deaf" will go on my "best albums of the decade" list -- which will certainly come as the New Year approaches. Still time left for a few good albums to drop. In terms of "super groups," while modern bands stemming back to the Mr. Big era have been God awful, there are always eariler blues based bands like Cream and the Yardbirds who succeeded (both of which were super groups). Hell, Cream's name came from the fact that, for the musicians at the time, they were the "cream."

For those jazz fans who want to relive the fusing of alien mythology with bee-bop. In other words, where the whole George Clinton, brother from another planet, business spawned from. The originator. The brother from another mother. Mr. Sun Ra:

My friends' band, The Upwelling, has released their debut album, An American Stranger. They were signed by Tyson Ritter of All-American Rejects; the album was co-produced by Steven Jankins of 3rd Eye Blind. They've also toured with the Killers.

Their influences include the Pixies, Pink Floyd, The Cure, Violent Femmes. Some of their tracks have a Coldplay sound to them as well. They were Spin's underground band of the year a couple years ago, as well as the first unsigned band ever to be featured on Virgin's "Recommends" list:

Here's "Wanderlust": http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea ... D=60845009

Go to http://www.theupwelling.com and you can also hear "American Girls," "Garden" and "Who Needs You"

Please check them out.

P.S. The album is also available on iTunes, Amazon, etc.

Samples of every track are available here: http://www.amazon.com/American-Stranger ... 405&sr=8-1

Nice band, Fish. They remind me so much of a band from the late 80's/early 90's alt scene. I just can't remember their name. I want to say Jesus and Mary Chain, but it isn't. It's another band with Jesus in it. Jesus Lizard? Hmmm no. And not MC900 ft Jesus. Hey, speaking of (following the rabbit hole where it leads) there's a blast from the past. Which zealot right winger said they wanted to build a 900 ft Jesus (inspiring the name of this band)?

Barely, are you thinking of Jesus, Jones (of"Right Here, Right Now" fame)?

I'm desperately wanting the new Muse album to leak. Like REALLY bad. I'm kind of obsessed with the thought right now, of listening to it.

Hmmm good call, Swami. Could be I was trying to recollect Jesus Jones. Probably was, because one of the songs of that band Fish mentioned does have a "Never Enough" vibe. Then again, with my swiss cheese brain there is a better than 50% chance that I meant Ned's Atomic Dustbin (because another song does sound like "Green Cell Grey"); or Toad the Wet Sprocket; or some other 90's alt band I used to listen to, but an aged and previously dormant synapse misfired and threw me into my "Jesus band" repository. All of this is to say, "Good band, Fish." I'll stop muddying up the thread with babble now.
