Did anything happen? exactly. I do not condemn it, but do not support it either in this situation. I support the 2nd amendment and you see this kind of protest and extreme acts on both sides.

As you point out sunsarethebest point of view, it goes to show your where you stand on the other side of the spectrum. From left to right.

But maybe this was staged by the Barry admin. Just like his town halls are. They are fake.

This isn't an issue about politics or second amendment rights

This is a story about a guy being a dick.

I think the quote at the bottom sums it up nicely:

"Individuals carrying loaded weapons at these events require constant attention from police and Secret Service officers, thus stretching their protective efforts even thinner," Helmke said. "The possibility that these weapons might be grabbed or stolen or accidentally mishandled increases the risks of serious injury or death to all in attendance."

Yes, you have the right to do that. Does that make it good? Does it help?

It's ridiculous that in AZ u can walk around with a loaded rifle. Not even in Africa u can do this kind of stuff. Totally absurd.

EDIT:
Before somebody takes me too seriously, the "not even in Africa..." was just an hyperbole. ok?

oh....did you mean citizens? I forgot that when a cop has the same gun, it magically becomes a good thing.

Frankly, I'm impressed at his reserve...

Lord knows if I'm in a heated debate with bleeding-heart blowhards (on either side) sometimes I wish I had a gun... Heaven forbid it's loaded...

Haha, at least he was dressed nicely.

Finally, though a bit cliche', guns don't kill people... people do. It's an important distinction.

guns are terrible things, but until those in power have theirs taken away, citizens need to let them know they won't give up their guns either. as long as the guns are registered, i see absolutely no problem with this at all.

I really don't understand Americans fascination with guns. If I went to what could be a heated debate on a controversial topic and everyone was packing I'd get the F out of there pretty quickly.

Would you bring a baseball bat and a knife to a debate? Even if you had no intent to use it you're still attempting to intimidate ppl.

as long as the guns are registered, i see absolutely no problem with this at all.

Tell that to the teenage high school students who have lost their lives over the last couple of years. All those guns were registered werent they?

And while we're on registration maybe if obtaining a gun wasn't pee easy then the whole "as long as it's registered" argument mind hold but lets be honest it doesn't. Plenty of mentally disturbed ppl have had guns registered to their name and can obtain them very quickly even thru legal channels.

Yay for registered guns!

Simply put:

You can make registration laws tougher, hell you can even outlaw guns.

But at the end of the day, only the law abiding citizens won't have guns... and those aren't the people I am afraid of having them in the first place.

There are gangs running the streets with automatic weapons. You think they give a flying flip about the law?

i'm nowhere near as scared of "gangs that have guns" as i am of not being allowed to even own a gun legally (i don't own a gun right now, but i may get one at some point) and having the govt/military be the only ones with them. the reason that there is a "right to bear arms" is for citizens to be able to protect themselves. its a check and balance. what is stopping the govt/military from taking complete control of everything if no one has the means to defend themselves against it?

as far as kids that go and shoot up their school... how rarely does something like that happen? if it wasn't guns they were using it would be something else. it's terrible that it happens, but you can't take the right to own guns away from everyone because a few stupid kids do some terrible things.

i hate even the idea of guns, personally. but, like i say, until the people in govt/military all over earth have none, its important that the citizens have theirs.

How rarely does it happen? The last one was in March of this year in Alabama ... you call that rare?

And "a few stupid kids" kill a lot of other innocent kids on an annual basis in America. That *solely* is a good reason to prohibit automatic weapons but there are also many many other reasons.

If they didn't use guns, they would have to use a knife and last time I checked it was a heck of a lot harder to kill a large number of ppl with a knife then it was with a gun.

Well the thing is you *can* take the right to own certain guns away from everyone. Once Port Arthur happened in Tasmania the laws were changed pretty quickly to prohibit automatic weapons across the country. We haven't had a mass killing spree since. It's really not that hard.

Oh and we don't have all these drug lords with M16's roaming the streets either ... I always found that argument to be the worst/funniest.
