NBC: Shaq Wants To Be A LAker Next Year!

Post#1 » by Mamba Venom » Wed Aug 19, 2009 7:58 am

I knew it

we all did

it was so obvious that Shaq wants to be a Laker!!!

He just said today 8-18-2009!!! Its official!!! Shaq has some sense left!?!

I would love to see him back for 2 more seasons with the Lakers because
1) it will intrigue Jackson to
2) Shaq can fill that ZO role on the 2006 champion squad
3) Kobe can show everyone he is the bigger man
4) old-times sake, a soft spot for Shaq after the 3-peat and a reunion
5) a super hybrid of Laker dynasty teams 3.0 and 4.0 and the best team in history assembled to be the all-time great

This only happens IF the Lakers win it all this year
and this comment shows that Shaq thinks the Lakers have a better shot at this than the Cavs.

http://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/sports/Shaq-Says-Next-Year-He-Wants-To-Return-To-Lakers-53581567.html

The reporter doesn't think Shaq would be welcomed back in LA, I see his points but my 1-5 as a Loyal Laker Fan are legit and if it is about basketball and Shaq will pay for the min, then in coach Jacksons words "there is always room for an old croc lurking in the shadows that can help a team"
Lakers are 22-3 in OT last 6 seasons:Kobe best OT closer!

It would come full circle if he did. I would welcome it but if I were Mitch and Jerry Buss, there would have to be some conditions in place. First things first, how much is it going to cost. The Lakers are way over the cap as is. I don't see the Lakers offering Shaq anything more than the MLE because thats all they could offer.

Second, he would come in a different role. He would be in a supportive role to play behind Bynum and Gasol. Does his ego think he could handle that. Shaq's a big star. He's the SUPERMAN and Shaq called Kobe Batman before. How would he feel playing as Kobe's aka Batman's Robin.

Actually, Shaq would be more like Batgirl. Gasol is already the go to guy behind Kobe.

Shaq really needs to iron things out with Buss first. He didn't have a good relationship at towards the end when he left.

All my reason tells me it just wouldn't work. But all my fantasy says it could work. Shaq back. Shaq retires as a Laker. Shaq will have his jersey hung up next to all the Laker greats; this will happen, but sooner rather that hurt feelings later.

You do realize that no matter what you pay him, even if his salary is 100% in the luxury tax, the Lakers organization would be EXTREMELY profitable on merchandising sales, Shaq jerseys, Kobe/Shaq T-shirts, etc, etc. It would be insane. I am sure they can make a few measly million from this worldwide.

Fisher/Brown
Kobe/Sasha
Artest/Luke/Morrison
Gasol/Odom <-Ridiculous, Imagine the rest these 2 get, it would be a nightmare for other teams.
Bynum/Shaq (Mbenga would not be resigned of course, there is the money for Shaq, I doubt he will get the MLE, possibly te LLVE, he can make money off final endorsements, book deals etc.)

I myself would love the have the Diesel back. Seriously as much of the shenanigans he does, I think Shaq wants to retire with class with the Lakers. Lakers would be sick and extremely intimidating.

Shaq will never come off the bench and I don't want to jeopardize Bynum's growth by putting him on the bench.

He knows he'll ruin his legacy if he comes off the bench. This is the guy who goes around telling people that he's the most dominant ever and bashing Dwight who might one day challenge his legacy.

he may want to come back as much as he wants but it's up to the the FO if they want him or not. True, it 'll be an awesome full circle but i think kobe wants to edge shaq with another win before going there i think lol.
Shaq would need to buy couple more police cars before the LA will except him back also lol.
Now it's Dr. Buss turn to say "pay me my money!!" lol jk

Pretty disrespectful to Cleveland to say that now, I'm sure their mindset is they are going to win two or three in a row with Shaq on board, to hear him say he's done after one year? Wow, Shaq sinks to higher lows all the time.

uhm ok, anyone here knows what shaq exactly said? like a quote of what he exactly said?

because "Shaq Says Next Year He Wants To Return To Lakers" is different from "Shaq said he wouldn't mind returning to the Lakers. But the Lakers may mind".

Bring him back. I'd love to have him teach Bynum the power game while Kareem handles the finesse game. Also a very useful contributor.

He'd have to fix his relationship with Buss first tho. I don't think Kobe would mind too much since Shaq helps us win.

Great marketing comment. Not in the least based in reality, but a great marketing comment. Already one LA television morning program talked about it today, I’m writing about it and you can bet sports talk radio will squeeze that in between Brett Favre talk today. And every time it’s mentioned his new reality show gets another free plug.

yeah, thats basically all this is.

I think it is too early to think about.

Wait Till July 2010 after we see if the Lakers still need a BIG Man.

I would say if they get beat on the boards and pushed around by Boston
in the Finals than yes. But if they win a title and improve. NO.

Lakers need to develop Chemistry and defense. I don't think Shaq will help
with chemistry but could help on the inside defense.

Phil's a successful guy, he'll make the right move when it presents itself.

I agree. I doubt it's going to happen, but I'd be on board with bringing him back if it becomes realistic.

Yeah, I just don't see Shaq coming in being a mentor/teacher to anyone. As a side note, it would be pure comedy if he came into replace Phil. ( jokes)

In all seriousness, I would take a committed and focused - do what it takes to win even if that means coming off the bench- Shaq back ..and not a side show, show up for a ring and think your shite don't stink. Since the latter is more likely, I would probably pass.

Shaq always beasts when he is motivated. I think one final hoorah with him would be welcomed by me. A chance for Kobe to get his 5th ring? Let's do it.

+2

1. Shaq's not replacing Phil Jackson; he's into being a superstar.

IE1:
He's not Bill Russell, who happens to be a player-coach w/ eleven championships as a player.

2. I agree w/ your latter paragraph but Shaq care about his legacy, and he'll listen to the right leadership.

Phil Jackson has got his respect, so good things can happen for us if he wanted to come here and we needed/wanted him. :)

3. He's in Cleveland now. (they won't be trading him for scraps before the season)

He wanted a chance to show the world that he could still be an effective player in this league and he's got it now.

Lebron could've used Shaq against Dwight last year; he's got him now.

And if worse comes to worse, he's still got Big Z coming off the bench.
