I swear I read on wikipedia a couple of months ago that in 2010 or 2011, the NBA champions will play either the Euroleague champs or the FIBA champs for the world tittle. I can't find that article right now on wiki. Does anyone else know about this?
I just hope no Lakers get hurt playing in that series next year or in 2011.

GENEVA -- A world championship for basketball clubs will be launched in 2010. World governing body FIBA said Monday that its first annual club championship will be played in October 2010, with $1 million offered to the winner.
The inaugural tournament will feature eight teams, comprising the five FIBA continental champions -- from Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe and Oceania -- the runner-up from the Americas and Europe plus a team invited by the host city.
It will not include an NBA team.
"There have been some talks with the NBA," FIBA spokesman Marcos Beltra said. "We will organize the first World Club Championship and then study the situation and in the second one invite the NBA champion."

Re: NBA Champs vs Euroleague Champs?
It suppose to be a championship that takes the place of the old Mcdonalds championship tourney that was shut down 10 yrs ago. The Problem with it is that in 2010 when the first tourney is suppose to take place its not Euroleague that sending its finalists its a third tier euro tourney that sending finalists also the Asian champion isn't legit because China stopped sending teams to the Asian club championships several years ago.If FIBA can get Euroleague involved and convince the the Chinese to start sending their best clubs to the Asian championships it should be an interesting tourney. It could be a shortened UEFA like basketall tourney at first I expect the NBA champs to dominate but eventually the Euro and South American teams could become very competitive. Also its suppose to take place in October it would be better if it starts sometime in the middle of NBA season it would give it more importance instead of being a nice vacation for the NBA champs and their families. And the last problem the winner of the tourney gets 1 million dollars which is alot of money but all these teams are going to probably be the richest teams from their continents there should be a bigger prize.
