Phoenix Pick-up Games

Post#1 » by witnessmoboobie » Thu Aug 20, 2009 9:24 pm

I came on here about 6 weeks ago asking for help about finding some places to play. Thanks for the help. I have another request. I play over at Rose Moford Park usually but that is about 25 minutes from my home. One guy mentioned the other nigth that there is a game by Happy Valley that is indoor and plays for 8 min sessions on Thursday nights. Does anybody know of this game, where it is exactly, an address or name of the complex? I tried googling it but had no luck. Thanks in advance.

I'll always up for playing games, but I usually play at my gym (LA Fitness), there's almost always pickup games going there. Decent talent too.

Until some weiner pulls down the rim, and we are forced to play 4 on 4 on the small courts at LA Fitness. But when that hasn't happened, there are some good games at the one by my house.

The Village on 44th st and Camelback. Indoor courts and glass boards, always games going on and occasionally some pros show up. It's like $5 to get in, worth it

Playing at 35th Ave and Glenrosa tomorrow morning. They have decent pickup games there. I try and play everywhere in Phoenix.

I went to school at American University so I did most of my playing at the outdoor courts at AU. Its really hit or miss with the games. Some days pretty good guys show up and you'll have 20 guys or more running full. Other days you will struggle to get 10 and 5 are overweight frat guys wearing sunglasses as the play. But the people are nice and at least its something to do. Games usually start at 530 pm on M-F. Saturday people show up at 10 am I think.

Other than that, I used to play a lot in Arlington. They have a bunch of courts and a variety of talent. I think you can go to the Arlington rec and park site to see where they are. I can't really recall what streets they are on. Also I played in the Arlington adult league. Some good guys play in that and you can join as a free agent. One of the guys that played was Christian Laettners back-up on the Duke team that won it all. Its like $100 bucks to join give or take $15 bucks and usually play 15 games or so not including the playoffs. They run leagues all year round I think.

I know the phoenix park system is $10 for a year and you can use any of their facilities. The place I played last night on Pinnacle Peak and 35th ave had a nice gym, glass backboards, etc. 2 games of full running, They play 8 min games and then winner stays on and losers keep getting circulated back through. Games are a little too short but it was a nice change of pace from all outdoor halfcourt games at Rose Moford.
