Should we dump Sasha?
Our teams biggest concern is back up Shooting Guard. Sasha has failed last year and the way he plays defense most of the backup SG's start going on big scoring runs when sasha is guarding them..
All contending teams have added more fire power at this position
1> Cleveland has a choice of Anthony Parker, Mo Williams and West
2> Boston has Eddie House a very very streaky shooter
3> Orlando has Micheal Pietris/JJ reddick
4> SA has Michael Finley and Roger Mason..
Basically all our opponents have stacked up so much a this position that we have a gaping hole.. Sasha will no longer work for us..We need to either bring some one who is defensive specialist or offensive scorer.. I prefer the offensive scorer because when Kobe gets in foul trouble we need some one to take on his scoring..
Will Mitch make a move?
What are our options?

Re: Is Sasha the risk for a repeat?
mo williams doesn't play sg, and west is their starter matched up with kobe. so its really just parker vs. vujacic, two non-impact players.
eddie house? been there for a couple of yrs now, so they didn't add more fire power. either way he's just a role playing spot up shooter. he can get pretty hot though.
isn't pietrus their starter? so he's matched up with kobe/artest. vujacic vs. redick? again, two non-impact players.
finley sucks, mason is pretty good, but they had him last yr too.
you're overstating how much better the elite got at sg, and c'mon, lakers have kobe.

Pietris was not a starter last year Lee was .. This year with Lee and Turk gone it could be toss up of Pietris or Barnes..
It is not just the SG position but most of these teams have added good depth at the PF/SF positions as well.. so thats why imo back up SG position may be crutial
I dont know about u but everytime Sasha comes on the floor i just close my eyes because the Lakers game becomes unwatchable...
I know u are calling all these backup SGs non impact players i would actually rather have any of them.. even Reddick plays smarter than Sasha...
Wow are we stuck with the bit*h

first off have some faith in the team. second just because Sasha had a bad year doesn't mean he will suck next year. think about what led to Sashas suckiness. he started the season injured. when he came back to play his minutes had been cut so he could get in to rythm. he was encouraged by the assistant coaches to be a playmaker which he is not. that took away from his game even more. he didn't really heal all year.
I am not saying that he will be the MJ of bench shooting guards, all I am saying is that he will be better next year.

Re: Is Sasha the risk for a repeat?
When you have Kobe you don't need a backup SG. Just kidding Kobe is human and he will need rest at some point in the game. Even if Sasha can't get it going this year we still have Brown who could play as a SG while Jordon is playing as a point guard. I really do hope that Sasha gets his crap together and can shoot like Machine like he did in the 07 - 08 season.

Ron Artest can be our backup shooting guard.

Kev.........are you in a panic or what ? You usually have some good stuff, but the minute you mentioned the guys you did you lost some cool factor points bruh ! Come on Kev NONE of those guys you listed are a major threat.......NONE. And for you to actually believe JJ Reddick is better than Sasha ? JJ can't play a lick of D on anybody, even if you let him literally hold your jersey. I could really go on and on but I won't, Kev take a deep breath and exhale. If Sasha fails at least we have Ammo waiting.kevin_405 wrote:Our teams biggest concern is back up Shooting Guard. Re: Is Sasha the risk for a repeat?
yea but all the teams you named dont have kobe as the starting shooting guard.
we are deep enough to slide other SF's or PGs into kobes backup spot. hes already going to play about 40+ min a game so we should be alright.
THE MACHINE is a great back up though..hopefully he catches fire when hes in the game but dont expect too much more out of him .
This is also one of the reasons why i liked ariza. he was the best backup for kobe . i know he was a starter but he could play the 2 just as good as anyone else on the team.

I don't worry about Sasha. I am 100% sure that he'll bounce back next year.

Re: Is Sasha the risk for a repeat?
I'm pretty sure Artest and Shannon Brown will see good amount of the leftover SG minutes behind Kobe. So Sasha is not "The risk for repeat". Player health and chemistry are our biggest concerns anytime.

Even though I dispise Sasha, I agree with Snaq.

There are alot of options. Gerald Green, Desmond Mason. I agree were weak here.
I think there gonna use Brown as the backup sg as well as Sasha.

Re: Is Sasha the risk for a repeat?
Yes you got me right Deep i am in panic mode looking at the firepower all the teams are acquiring.. If we are gonna spend, why stop now.. when so much better talent is on the free agency market..
May be it is time Ammo gets the backup spot.. I had enough of the bricks he threw last season.. and i dont think injury at the start of the season had anything to do with it.. he is just pure garbage..
I remember shannon started the same way but the guy eventually started making those 3s .. Sasha probably gets the most wide open shots in the whole team.. and he missed a ton of them last season..
I remember this is how i felt about Radmanovic year before last.. and turned true until we benched and traded Vlad rad we never looked like the championship caliber team last year..
This year it will be Sasha turn, mark my words..

Nobody will take him though. His contract is terrible. I think if they could dump Luke or Sasha they would. Luke is a fine player but buisness wise he gets paid to much although if he would play 82 games and maybe rebound and play D a little better I would love him as a backup sf/pf espially with our bench now and how thin it is.

Re: Should we dump Sasha?
^Better double down, playboy!
In all seriousness, I do hope so.
After saying (publicly) I expected him to shoot 40% or better from the 3pt line in 06'-07' (which he did) he's slipped up.
I'm out of patience with him.
The Lakers "overpaid" for him (I called this fact too, and I called the exact amount he was gonna get overpaid by - months before it went down) and that money could be going to another contributor right about now.

Re: Should we dump Sasha?
They need a backup sg bad so I really hope Sasha makes a comeback. If he can shoot close to 40% from 3 then with Brown we will not be weak on the bench like I think and some others think. If Farmar can do well and has improved that will mean alot because FIsher and Farmar can man the pg with Brown playing some to and then have Brown as the first sg off the bench and Sasha as a backup of 2 and some 3 if he can shoot 40%.
That would make passing up on Green, Mason, Carney and all the other steals out there exceptable and I wouldn't care.
Right now it looks like we can replace Ariza with a min contract almost but if Sasha comes back then saving money is fine by me.
