starts around 16:20, but i shall transcribe...

Interview Guy wrote:how bout next year, do you think [the lakers] are the team to beat?

Robert Horry wrote:To be honest with you, i don't think so. i don't think so at all just because i don't like the chemistry of the team now with ron artest. i love ron artest as a player but his style and kobe's style kinda bump heads a little bit. i think with lebron getting shaq and orlando getting vince i think those two teams are probably gonna come out and win the title.

this after predicting orlando would beat the lakers in 6?

Heard this 2 days ago, Rob is bitter to some degree about how his career ended in LA. I don't put much stock in what Rob says now, he's one of those bitter guys who didn't get to go out on his own terms.

I think the Cavs and Magic are deeper in terms of the bench and they don't have a weakspot like we do in pg but we have Odom and they don't.

With that said I think the old Laker teammates some of them may still look at Kobe as kind of selfish. None of the teammates really backed him up in the Colorado case. Rick Fox said D George was the most athletic player not Kobe. Fisher years ago said he would go to N.Y. Shaq fueded with him.

Now none of these comments are proof or were even that bad but if you read between the lines it is possible they didn't like the old Kobe. He was kind of isolated back in those days right?
It seems Horry's comments would be correct with the old Kobe which is probably why Butler was traded but that wouldn't happen with new make your teammates better Kobe.

Apperently he didn't watch the Bulls with MJ and Pipp

Rob did say something along the lines of, "IF (the Lakers) DON'T SIGN ME, (the Lakers) BETTER SIGN SOMEONE BETTER THAN ME TO REPLACE ME. IF NOT, THEN I WILL BE OFFENDED."

I believe he said that during the '03 offseason... he ended up signing with the Spurs... and we beat the Spurs 4-2 in the conference finals to make it to the NBA FINALS.

We coulda used him against Rasheed Wallace in the Finals.

Instead, Billups and the "bad boys" from the east coast just had their way with our depleted & battered roster...

Finals MIA list, featuring:

1. Rob Horry = FA
2. Deaven George, Rick Fox, and Karl Malone = Injuries

He's one of the most clutch playoff performers of all time and he played well for us as a Laker.

I'm listening to the interview while I'm posting right now.

Okay, the laker part of the interview is over.

He makes some good points.

Good find, dcash4.

Only 5 teams can win it all, 2 in the west which means the 2 of the top 3 in the East have to play eachother before the eastern finals. LAL, SAS and the top team in the East has the easiest chance

Off topic I thought D George would come back some how.

I think the East has only 3 teams with Celtics-Magic-Cavs

West has Lakers-Spurs-Blazers

Lakers clearly have the advantage so Horry is nuts. Those guys in the East have to play each other. We have the easier road to the finals.

i agree, last couple of yrs spent on lakers I felt he was worthless during the regular season. He seemed to save himself for PLayoffs. The yr before he was not resigned he was horrid and if he hits just 1 or 2 shots, we beat the Spurs. That perfomance, coupled with garbage regular seasons was the end of his Laker career.

the following season as a Spur he was a non factor vs Lakers in playoffs.

he's a cool cat though. a bit bitter perhaps that his contributions in crunchtime siezed.

I remember him talking smack about how the first two games of the playoffs were the most important and we "swept" them from game 3 to game 6.

I was cheering on like a lunatic from the sidelines. :clown:

Celtics are just as good as the other 2 in the East so i don't know why he has them off. They got KG and Sheed to throw on Howard and even have a 4 to guard Lewis if they don't start Bass.

Horry is underrating the Lakers and Celtics.

And about Artest he is also underrating him. He is more sound in mind then people give him credit for and even underrating Phil's ability to help players see Dennis Rodman.

it's not "help".

It's trust.

I consider Dennis Rodman to be a Hall of Famer... maybe i'll edit this post and get into it later.

All I'll say now is this: Dennis Rodman did his work and did it well in San Antonio... but he was used as a SCAPEGOAT and blamed for the teams failures against the Championship Rockets.

Dennis himself said something like, "it was like David Robinson was GOD and I was THE DEVIL. And I was the 'BAD BOY' so everyone just blamed Me, cuz I'm Dennis Rodman."

I'll find the link for you sometime if you don't believe me.

Dennis Rodman was defenately a hall of famer. i have no doubt on that one. Best defensive pf ever. I think with the new hyprid pf's he wouldn't do as good but he would still be a close to max contract player for his D even at 6'6 and a half.

Dennis was no Horace Grant he was a great #3 even without the points.

Thank you, Phil.

Yup........... You remember last year when he was in LA midway through the season and he was at the staple center then at halftime he was on fox marketing himeself. "Oh the Lakers are great" "Kobes on a mission" "Its now Kobes team to lead" "Im a free agent and Im ready to go if the Lakers+other teams need me" GTFO and now he's making predictions??? Gee I wonder why he picked those teams. Could it be he wants to play for one of them to get another title with four different teams or he needs a job and the Lakers have no interest in him????
Robby boy went from BIF SHOT BOB to STFU BOB.........

Oh and Im not mad at him....... I still have love for him for everything he did for the Lakers, specially all the daggers he stuck in every teams hearts.

Rob says Shaq is a unselfish player WTF...

Rob seems jealous that we got Ron.. Ron singlehandedly carried Houston.. after the "Sticks and Bones" fell to injury..

I think Ron Ron will be great for us.. with all the open shots he will get because of teams overloading on Kobe and Gasol..

Plus we now have a sharp shooter from 3 which we didn't have. And for you Ariza guys he only shot that well in the playoffs and look how good we were when he did.

The only things i liked with Horry is when he made that three against the kings in the playoffs and when he took out Nash in the playoffs also. That has a nice hockey type bump.

I always wanted to like Horry if he would have tried harder and played all year round. I think he had allstar potential. I think if he played C he could been a top Center if he developed some post moves and could have drawn out C's and used his speed and blocked shots if he wanted to .

BINGO

I'm not sure if it was only on radio, but I think on camera (unsure which show) he said the same thing.

So I wouldn't buy into Horry's pick when he already picked against us against the Magic and lost.

With all due respect Mr. Horry you can go **** yourself. Lakers are winning the championship in 01-11 you old bitter ****.

I kid, I love Horry, but he is definately wrong here. Celtics have a better chance at the title than the Cavs or the Magic. The Cavs will have worse chemisty with Shaq and Lebron.

Return to Los Angeles Lakers
