Isn't Kobe's shot bigger than Mj's? That's one of those shots that you can stick right in the FInals highlight montage, the one they use right before they start a Finals game.

Jordan's was spectacular at the time but when you watch it he didn't really NEED to do it. I saw an interview after that said he thought someone was going to block it but no one was there. It was also off an assist splitting the D.

Kobe's was a 1 on 1 move and he's beating one defender then he HAS to do that just to get it off against the best shot blocker in the league all over him. That move is even more spectacular. It actually leaves into one hand then he pulls it all the way back to the other side and shoots... rediculous... and consider Kobe's smaller hands...

Kobe's is more difficult. Jordan's just looks nicer and after getting shown countless times, I just remember it.

but a reason i think mj's shot is so famous is because that series marked the passing of the torch from magic to michael. and other than some images of them defending each other that shot is definitely the most memorable highlight of that 91 series.

I always wondered why he had to switch hands in the first place, since theres no defender trying to block the shot in the first place.


If you slow down Kobes shot some more and add in some soft "classic" color filter, it would be just as good as Jordans shot.

Kobe's shot was way more difficult, but no one is going to remember that. Hell I had forgotten about it until someone brought it up on the GB. Unless they replay it a ton of times next season and in years to come (highly unlikely) it's going to die a quick death if it already hasn't.

What Kobe will likely always be known for is his assist to Shaq in Game 7 of the WCF against Portland during that great comeback. Actually, that will be the play that both players are likely remembered for.

1. It was necessary for him to adjust, therefore he is improvising in a sense.

2. It IS over a defender (actually the defensive player of the year).

3. He jumps off the wrong foot

MJ's shot was also big because it was against the lakers. It just seems like everytime I watch the NBA favorite moments they pick a highlight with the lakers playing defense..

If you go on the GB in the player comparison thread I did a thread called 3 moves frozen in time. I used the Dr.J reverse, (agaisnt us) MJ shot (against us) & that same Kobe shot & they all tried to shoot it down. I voted for Kobe's because it was extremely more difficult then all 3. Go over there & find it & bring it back forward.
