He has at least a 1 in 450 chance of getting it.

It'd be nice, but he has to show that he's improved first.

It would be great, but I think I'll wait to see him on the court before I go making any predictions.

I'd look at this question in a year's time. He has a lot of work to do.

2010-2011 IMO is more likely.

So he moves up to 11-13 ppg this year, cuts his fouling down, plays 15-20 minutes. not most improved
I see this possible by fouling less; shooting closer to 50% and hitting 70-75% of his FT.

In 2010 He has a shot at this prize going up to 30 minuttes. See: Lamarcus Aldridge.
So at 30-35 minutes; his scoring shoots up to 19-20 ppg (he'll have to take a few more shots or shoot a much higher percentage for this to happen), his rebounding has to increase also, 10+ rpg he needs to use his 7'2" frame to rebound. Simply doubling what he does at 14 minutes 3.5 won't cut it. Work on his assists, and continue to block at a high level and I think with the jump in his per game production he could be looking at being legit, and maybe winning an award.

I fear this might be a rosy prediction but he has enough size, and pedigree to do it. If you see him playing 30+ this year, and Jeff playing 18-, and think his off season work could improve all of this, then yes 2009-2010 could be his year. I think he's 2 years out, he'll really shine after 2011 when we become a new team, if he's ever going to shine that is.

rebounds and blocks don't win this award, it's a media award so that means points. but if he jumped up to 18ppg, 8-9rpg, and 2blks, he'd receive serious consideration.

For Roy Hibbert to win MIP, he will basically need to be an All-Star C in the East. If Danny Granger or Mike Dunleavy couldn't win the award in the 07-08 season, then it's highly doubtful that Roy is going to get it any time soon.

I think if he stays out of foul trouble then it is possible, unlikely, but possible. He's got to at least double his PPG and nearly triple his RPG. He'll have to stay out of foul trouble to stay in the game long enough to do so. Something like 15 and 9 with a couple of blocks would deserve some recognition and MIP votes. I highly doubt he'll win it, though. Still, worth the discussion on the Pacer forum.

If he "jumps" up to 18 ppg, 8-9 rpg, and 2blks, we're not only in the playoffs, but possibly hosting the 1st round series.

However, we're not going to be that good, and Hibbert's not going to post anywhere near these stats for another 2-3 seasons, if ever.

Agreed. I don't see Hibbert doing that well. He's more like a 12 and 6 guy.

That'd be awesome, but not likely-- assuming he stays out of foul trouble, I'd be very happy if he averaged over 11 PPG, 7 RPG and 2BPG. That may not necessarily be "most improved player" worthy but it would sure help the team.....

What would be the distribution of minutes at PF/C ? As an outsider my guess is:

Murphy(34)/Psycho T(14)
Hibbert (24)/Foster (24)

Solomon Jones and McRoberts would get playing time in case of injuries or foul trouble. Does it sound alright? Or can Foster see much less minutes(his rebounding rate declined sharply last season) ? Also is it possible for Tyler to get more minutes (like 23-25 mpg) ?

Something like that. I do hope Roy can manage 24mpg, but it may drop to 20 or so if he can't drop his foul count.

Pretty promising stuff about Roy, from Tom Crean of all people...

via twitter

@TomCrean - Roy Hibbert is in AH to play today. He started his Pacer workouts at 930 with lifting, agilities and workouts and then drove a hour down here
about 3 hours ago from txt

@TomCrean - He is serious about being a great player. What a great example for our Indiana players

I guess Psycho T wont receive more than 14-16 mpg unless Murphy is injured, right?

Pretty much, but I see him not playing at all in some games and in others getting up to 30 minutes. His average will probably hover around 15 MPG, though.
