OT Beasley rehab
I remember pre-draft there was a large debate about Beasley being a problem child. What do you guys think of this rehab situation? Do you still wish we could have drafted him?

Re: OT Beasley rehab
Funny how EVERY BOARD has a thread about this kid. No, I don't wish we drafted him, I didn't want him back then. This just cements it for me.

Me too. Didn't want him then. Don't want him now. Won't want him in the future.

Re: OT Beasley rehab
I think he isn't mentally mature right now but I also think the rehab may be a bit over blown. He does need to behave more maturely however and at this time I wouldn't really want him on my team. This si something he can easily over come through time howerver. Still, you never want to have to deal with a headcase on your squad.
When luck shuts the door skill comes in through the window.

I remember when people were actually arguing about who should go #1 Rose or Beasley....I'm just glad Miami took Beasley #2 and not Mayo...

I was one who really wanted Beasley, and I still contend that tremendous talent is there. But one year later, I'm really glad we have Love. It's nice to be wrong sometimes.

Re: OT Beasley rehab
Beasley is similar to Randolph in that they will only be "special" if they develop as SF's and are not moved to the PF spot. beasley has done nothing thus far to show he is a SF. But it is hard to get shots in Miami.

He must have been doing more than weed if he needs rehab, but if he has a substance problem and was still good enough to be the second pick he has a long career ahead of him if he can kick it.

I still prefer Love, but I liked Supercool Beas then and Id happily trade for him now if Miami wants to sell low

Re: OT Beasley rehab
I'm not so sure it's drug rehab, as opposed to psych rehab. The kid's a bit suicidal.

This. The drugs are a small portion of it. That kid is in a bad place mentally

Re: OT Beasley rehab
assuming this doesn't explode and end his career, which i don't think it will, he still has a mighty long time to become and impact player or go Starbury on us. even if it does put a damper on his game now, a little rehab never really hurt anyone. just look at what Birdman has done in denver.
long term he's not going to be in the discussion of who was the best of the draft class, he'll end up having a Glenn Robinson career. I'm much happier with Mayo to Love that wound up in us getting Rubio.

There is a very good chance that we would have traded the pick and at the time of the draft Beasley had more value than Mayo

Re: OT Beasley rehab
I know his dad made a big deal about those two baggies from the picture not being his, but he was one of the guys, along with Arthur and Chalmers, that got busted for smoking dope at the rookie conference, right?

Yup, they hid him in the closet and initially it was just those two that got busted. But i think he came clean about it right after.

I dig the new avatar, C.lupus.
I hear Beasley's in a good place with his pot smoking and this rehab is for internet porn. Kid was chafed raw.

Re: OT Beasley rehab
question: how many players in the NBA do you think do drugs? I think its down from where it used to be, but I think there are a pretty good chunk of guys who do. We know Beasley does and Starbury does, haha

Re: OT Beasley rehab
I think we should distinguish between "doing drugs" and smoking pot. There's a HUGE difference between weed and something like cocaine or LSD.
If we're talking about smoking pot, I'd bet that there's a huge percentage of players that smoke at least occasionally. I'd say on the very low end it's 25% and on the upper end maybe 75%...obviously all guesses. Those guesses are for occasional smokers, not pot heads.
I wouldn't think there is too much in the way of hard drugs. There's no way they could maintain that kind of physical conditioning if they got hooked on that stuff.

Thriving on mediocrity since '89.
