OT- Bunch Of Brewers On Waivers, Including Cameron

Post#1 » by zilby » Wed Aug 26, 2009 8:55 pm

The Brewers placed a number of players on waivers Tuesday, once of which is believed to be closer Trevor Hoffman.

Milwaukee placed Hoffman, outfielder Mike Cameron, infielder Craig Counsell, catcher Jason Kendall, right-hander Braden Looper and second baseman Felipe Lopez on waivers, according to sources.

Assuming these are revokable waivers (I'm sure they are), the Jays can't simply go out and snag any of these players. First, every team worse than the Jays must pass on them. Then, Toronto must put in a claim. Then, the Jays must work out compensation. Cameron is probably the only guy on the list really worth having from Toronto's point of view, but Milwaukee would likely want something in return...and we shouldn't be in the business of giving away value for 36 year olds.

Sometimes, doing nothing can be more useful than grabbing at every 30-something that comes across the wire.

i agree shad, but with the loss of rios it could help to have cameron playing CF and move vernon to right and have snider in left and lind as a DH.

and we can give them a meh prospect if we need to. cameron is a gold glover OF and since hes 36 will have less value most likely

We can't give them a meh prospect, though...Cameron is almost guaranteed to be a Type-B free agent, which means that Milwaukee will want a package that at least matches the value of a supplemental pick. We don't have many players that fit the bill, and definitely don't have guys of that calibre that we can sacrifice for old players who'll help us to a higher level of mediocrity.

The Jays must have OF options in the farm, right? I mean, Mike Cameron? Why? What about Buck Coates, the CF on the 51s?
