The problem is that you need to be on the 40-man roster to be called up. We have almost no inactive hitters on the 40-man...no one in the minors other than Inglett, in fact, so my guess is that two already inactive pitchers will be moved to the 60-day DL (which doesn't count against the 40-man).

Garmfay's note that only guys with ML experience will be coming up surprised me a touch, not because I expected a Dopirak in this wave (still possible in a week, when the AAA season ends), but because I thought Kyle Phillips was the most likely second position player, as teams love to carry three catchers through September.

As for the call-ups, my guesses:

Pitchers - David Purcey, Fabio Castro (contract purchased), Jeremy Accardo, Dirk Hayhurst, and Brian Wolfe.

Hitters - Joe Inglett, Buck Coats.

JP did say a 3rd catcher was likely to be called up so I think Phillips is the guy

Interesting...Phillips has no ML experience, so perhaps what he really meant was "no one who could be confused with a prospect". Or perhaps he forgot that Kyle Phillips isn't Jason Phillips.

One thing about Phillips: Baseball Prospectus has his peak equivalent average translation at .255 using his PCL stats, against the major league average is .260 (similar to a PER of 15 in the NBA, that never changes). That would better Barajas (.239) and Chavez (.217), though bettering Barajas and Chavez doesn't take a tonne of effort.

Hopefully he performs well enough to be the placeholder at catcher next year.

Dopirak must be pissed to know he won't be called up. So far 2 for 2 with a HR and 2 RBIs

He might still get his chance. The Jays have four guys they can 60-day (Litsch, McGowan, Marcum, and Barrett, who does in fact still exist); adding Castro and Phillips would take up two of 'em, and Dopirak plus perhaps one of Sanchez/Howard/Coats could fill the other.

They could theoretically 60-day Cecil and Zip as well and call up the whole lot of them, but that would create a demented roster crunch in the off-season.

What happened to Barrett? He was on a rehab assignment then disappeared..
