Tmac that means you lost the bet and you owe $10.

haha, If I remember correctly, I said that "wasn't a bet I'd probably make," though I will mention I felt it would go longer. Would you like that through paypal, or mail? :)

I'd be interested in some sort of keeper league though, if we wanted to contract this to 8-12 participants and either start in 95 or ratchet back a bit further and simply do a draft to begin with or inherit teams.

Perhaps that couls work better. We'd have to have a Free Agency system in place before hand, but a smaller league would have more success IMO.

There wouldn't be much need for one if the league were smaller. The tough thing is Free Agency (ala, who would sign where, so perhaps each season that could be allocated to a GM, and worked rotationally), apart from that, the draft would run as per, and votes would be cast by GMs).

The only thing of concern would be signing destinations. But I do believe there are at least 8 GMs who would stick it out, if we all put the work in.

with this being rather new game, what if we start over with only a few GM's and if the game picks up steam, we could expand with an expansion draft. My guess would be to only have say 12 GM's (6 East and 6 West) allow us to cut anybody but 5 guys. Have a 5 round draft (pure picking out of a hat for order) of remaining players. Then do the 1995 draft. Whoever has the most exp can be 1st GM and rotate every year. every year we can vote on an expansion team or so

That's too confusing. And if we restart I think the remaining people will drop.

I say, just figure out who wants to still play, let TMac be overall commish (trades go through him...approval and whatnot). Maybe spend 1-2 days filling teams. Teams that we don't have, just throw those players into FA and move on.

Honestly its not that hard in the present form.

1. A 1 rd draft every offseason
2. A FA period
3. A draft deadline
4. rankings of teams.

No real reason why a season should last more than a week or 2 if you can get the draft done in a timely way.

I do think the FA has perils in it when your bidding on a player. I have np useing a 3 rd GM as the player agent and I have np making all players RFA. If every player is a restricted FA then anyone can make a bid and the current GM can either match or remounce. with unresricted FA then your going to need a 3rd GM to be the players agent.

We also would have to reconfigure the salary cap with fewer teams but I would support a marginal increase so teams arent too stacked. We need a system that preserves the historical salaries as much as possible. KISS should be the goal.
