The Rockets have been in trade talks with several teams about moving veteran guard Brent Barry, according to several individuals with knowledge of the talks.
The most serious discussions have been with the Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies and Oklahoma City Thunder. A trade to the Clippers could extend Barry's career, with the Clippers potentially offering a chance to play near Barry's Los Angeles area home.
Though nothing appears imminent, there is “a good shot” that Barry could be traded to create roster space before the start of training camp Oct. 28.
Rockets general manager Daryl Morey declined to comment and Barry could not be reached for comment on Monday.
Barry has one more season, worth $2.062 million, left on the two-year contract he signed with the Rockets July 10, 2008.

I hope this trade happens so badly. I guess we will be using the TPE on him.

Id rather use the TPE on a better SF, like Jackson or something. My only memories of Barry was him in the dunk comp for us.
If the Clippers win the championship next year I'm getting banned from RealGM

Barry seems like a solid locker room presence, he can handle the ball and he can space the floor. All reasons why I like this for the Clippers.

We cannot use the TPE on a player like Jackson because his salary is too high and you cannot combine players with the TPE. The dunk contest was cool but he showed so much potential. Everytime he did anything flashy that sorry Fitch pulled him out or scolded him.

Re: Clippers interested in bringing Barry back?
I wouldn't mind adding Bones. He can play multiple positions, he can shoot and he's expiring. It's not a sexy move, but it would be a solid addition to the extended bench.
We'd have to package some players together for Captain Jack. TPE is only $3.4M and can't be combined with players. He's making $7.65M this season.

So this means no Novak because it would be a waste of money to have two guys that aren't that far apart from each other. Also I want a 2nd round pick if we are using the TPE.

Barry for Ricky! Just kidding.
I wouldn't mind it one bit.
If the Rockets want Kaman, this is their chance to get him (in some type of package deal on both parts). But I doubt they do, with the recent news of Yao.

I'd rather go after Rodney Carney or Gerald Green to fill our backup 2/3 positions. We need cheap young players who still have some potential to build around our young core. We don't have no need for players like Brent, who are at the end of their careers. Brent is a guy who is better off on a contending team.

Older people have their own particular something to add.
That includes being a steadying influence, and helping younger ones by offering a broader perspective and the benefits of their experience. A largely-young locker room can get a lot out of having a man like Barry around. He's a great character guy and extremely likeable.
I also think the time he played for Popovich enhanced what he's able to do on the court.
I like this for the Clippers. But what does it mean giving up? That's the only question remaining for me.

If we do this, I don't think the purpose would to get Brent Barry. Could be a package deal or another salary cap move.

Re: Clippers interested in bringing Barry back?
I personally wouldn't trust that Taylor and Telfair are mature enough to battle for a backup PG spot. IMO, those two together has the potential to hurt chemsitry in the locker room if one is getting more minutes than the other. Barry will be great for team chemistry and he can even tutor Gordon on how to play both guard positions, something Barry has done very well his whole career. Barry's role in the locker room is more important from a 14th man of an NBA team trying to win than raw potential from a 3rd tier prospect.
There's a chance Barry won't be too thrilled to report to Memphis or Oklahoma, and since he and his family has a good relationship with Houston management, they may do Brent a favor and trade him to LA where he owns a home if our offer is competitive. I like the chances that the Clippers acquire him.

I wouldn't mind getting Barry as along as we don't have to give much up.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

Are you serious? Barry is better than Taylor in all aspects of the game. Barry is clutch and consistent while Taylor is..... well I guess the fact that no other team swept him up off of waivers which would have been cheaper than signing him for the minimum or signed him to a contract speaks for itself.

Trade exception for Barry is good. Houston is just looking to shed salary and roster spot(we currently have 17 players under contract).

Re: Clippers interested in bringing Barry back?
I'd say no. We need to use our last remaining asset to bring in a "player", not a guy to sit at the end of the bench. Let's wait and see how the Sessions thing works out-----we may be able to get him using the TPE. What do we have left about 3.3mil? Maybe Sessions takes that as a starting salary on a five year contract. If we're actually going to compete for a playoff spot, we still need a more useful player than Barry. Barry's greatest attribute at this point in his career is that he's an expiring contract, and we have enough of those for next year already.

Re: Clippers interested in bringing Barry back?
If it's a swap of expiring contracts like Ricky Davis for Brent Barry. I'm all for it. Barry can still play and he brings a veteran presence in the locker-room, his Dad was one of the greatest SF's of all time and Barry is a two-time NBA Champion with the Spurs. He'll bring class and can finish his career where he started. So it comes full-circle.
PG - B. Davis/S. Telfair/M. Collins
SG - E. Gordon/B. Barry
SF - R. Butler/A. Thornton
PF - B. Griffin/C. Smith/S. Novak
C - C. Kaman/M. Camby/D. Jordan
That's a solid roster with a perfect mix of young players and veteran players.

Re: Clippers no longer interested in bringing Barry back
A Clippers source confirmed a report from the Houston Chronicle that said the Clippers were among three teams to have had talks with the Rockets for acquiring veteran guard Brent Barry, but that the team's interest is "dated."
The Clippers had talks earlier this summer with the Rockets, the source said, but their interest waned after acquiring backup point guard Sebastian Telfair, Craig Smith and Mark Madsen in a trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Quentin Richardson.
The Clippers had liked Barry's versatility and ability to play at point and shooting guard. The Rockets signed Barry in the 2008 off-season because of his playoff experience. Barry, who has one season left on his contract worth a reported $2.062 million, averaged 3.7 points and shot 40.7% in 56 games last season.
