I would have liked to get Steph early in the off-season, save the videos and the uncertainty about his future sending him even further off the rails
i still think hes the best option, and with a training camp he could be the ideal back up for rondo... but hes more work now than he was a month or 2 ago, and he wont be returning

If he went out with a month to go in the season what would we do? I want someone on the team where if they had to start I could still like our chances of winning a title.

Who is that X that lests us win a title. I don't think it is House or Danials or Hudson. Yeah we might only have 10-15 minutes a game for them, but they would be practicing with the team, they would know the offense and the D.
That's why Marbury is the answer. He is a perfectly capable starting PG. Yes, he is weirdo. I don't care. Sign him anyway.
I don't care that he's a weirdo. I care that he can't play for s*** anymore.

Who were the backup PGs on any of our 17 title teams?
In the 4 championships that I've personally followed, though you can argue some weren't "real" PGs they were indeed used as ones - guys who could handle the ball, (something House cannot do) and shoot when open.
2008: Cassell
1986: Ainge
1984: Henderson/Buckner
1981: Henderson/Duerod
I don't understand the resistance to acquiring another ball handler who can knock down shots off the bench. It'll just make us deeper and give guys a breather when needed. We're not talking about a 20 minute player here. Getting someone now - someone who can grow with the team starting in training camp makes total sense. Be it Arroyo, Head, Hudson or anyone else Danny deems appropriate it's the right move. Let Daniels concentrate on other responsibilities first before crowning him a backup PG. He can occasionally bring up the ball but so can Pierce and Allen - and they rarely do. So could Antoine Walker - and the team suffers for it. It's something you do from time to time but not as a practice, unless you're an experimental coach like Nelson. Doc isn't one. Let's just find a guy who's responsibilites begin and end as PG - a cog in the wheel. That's what we need right now.

I think he still has some game left if given time to find a true rhythm, such as starting in case of an injury to Rondo

I think Ainge will get someone - or it will be Hudson. Backup PG is a very easy spot to fill. I absolutely think Head could do the job but there are other guys too.

Marbury was a good soldier last season.....
I wouldn't mind if he were to come back....he could fill the starting role adequately if called upon....just as long as he continues to be a good soldier...
He does have a leg up in that he's familiar with the system now... and has played with most of the players ....that has to be worth something?
As far as his off court antics, thats his business! ....Just as long as he's not arrested or he test's positive for drugs...or in the middle of some inner city gang war, he's OK by me....
If he wants to get in playing shape and play for cheep, sign him up!

Re: We need a backup PG
I like marbury but he didn't play well last year and the C's don't seem anxious to resign him. They likely know more about him then we do..
I don't really think this is a big need to be honest. I think Danny WILL get someone but that guy might NEVER play. Remember we have House and Daniels as a "second unit" backcourt bunch. That's enough ball handling back there..
This is shaping up like our last championship off-season. We are reduced to nitpicking about our worries. When will we get our third string PG?!

It's not an issue now. We could go into the regular season and be more than fine. But a backup PG was an issue in these last two postseasons. I'd rather deal with it sooner than later.
