First of all, he's in a rehab as a result of something he did a year ago. He's not there because of any new drug related infraction. He's there completing his penance for his previous wrong doing, which by the way may or may not have involved actual use of any illegal substance. The only thing we know for sure was that he was in the room... then tried to get out of thew room. No one rags on Mario Chalmers for being there.
Second of all, pot doesn't lead you to a life long ban. The most you can get is a 5 game suspension. Read the CBA. This isn't something that effects Beasley as a player on a longterm basis. This was a mistake... the same mistake countless others have made including Lamar Odom and Charles Oakley to name a pair of notables. They've both had pretty distinguished careers.
I also simply don't project an all offense/no defense player with a higher ceiling than Randolph. It's like your saying Beasley has the higher upside just because he can score more, but he's going to give up more than half those points in return on the defensive end. Give me an all around player anytime over a one dimensional scorer.
First of all, calling Beasley all offense/no defense is preposterous. He plays defense. He plays it fairly well at times. He's not the defender that Randolph is, but he is not a turnstile.
Second of all, you're assuming you know Beasley's defensive ceiling. He improved immensely from the beginning of last season to the end of last season in that regard. Their is no reason he can't continue to improve.
Finally, who in the hell would call Randolph an all around player? Seriously, he is to offense what Beasley is to defense... average at best! Just like you don't want Beasley defending the other team's best player, you also don't want an opposing team focusing their defense on Randolph. Either way, you're pretty much screwed.
I don't see how you can claim Randolph is so superior when he's every bit the liability on offense that you claim Beasley is on defense. Poor argument...
