Re: Bowen retiring
He was good at what he did and was a huge part of our championship teams. Not the way I wanted to see him go out but no one usually goes on a high note, but we should definelty give him some sort tribute sometime at a home game this season.

Yeah.. I really wish he has some sort of farewell tour you know? Announce this is his last year and stuff. I think Bowen deserve to have his jersey retired.

Re: Bowen retiring
It's a shame to see him go, but he's really lost it the past couple of seasons.
But he remains one of my all-time favourite Spurs. For a while there his corner 3 was deadly, and of course his D was brilliant. He really got under the skin of a lot of players (not to mention their whiny fans).
Thanks for the memories Bruce Almighty!!!!!

I don't know if he deserves to have his jersey retired, althought i'd like to see it happen. But I do think the Spurs should give him a proper send off, some sort of pre game tribute or something like that.

Re: Bowen retiring
You know... it is arguable.
Avery Johnson got his jersey retired. I forgot about Sean Elliott but didn't we retire him too? Can't remember that one. I mean, as far as accomplishments as a Spur go, I think Bowen trumped both of those guys. There are others such as Johnny Moore but I wasn't a Basketball fan at that time so I really don't know what he did to get his jersey retired.
Bowen IMO is just as important as any of the big 3 during our championship years. Manu and Parker perhaps carried the offense, but our team's staple was Defense. Bowen and Duncan was on par with each other when talking about their defense.

Re: Bowen retiring
I am 95% sure Bowen will get his jersey retired and it is not like we would retire his jersey for the sake of retiring his jersey. We are talking about a guy that made it to 8 consecutive all-defensive teams and was a key factor to Spurs' success always defending (successfully) the best offensive player of the opposing team.

Re: Bowen retiring
We should definitely retire his jersey. I am sure every Spurs fan will remember Bowen and those championship teams forever and I know fans of other clubs think Bruce was a dirty player and all that but in our hearts he is one of the greatest ever. As one poster said earlier, thanks for the memories Bruce!!!

Hate to see Bowen retire, but he did have a good run with the Spurs for a while. For what he has done with the team he deserve to have his jersey retire in the rafters.

He made the 1st team D in 07-08 based purely on reputation, IMO. I think his play has regressed the past few seasons. The last two especially.

Re: Bowen retiring
I'm glad Bruce decided to retire instead of play for another team. While I've always been a huge fan of the Spurs stars, Bowen has always been my favourite player. He maximised his talents and worked as hard as I've ever seen anyone work. His play ignited my own personal passion for defense, and made me appreciate basketball at both ends of the floor.
I believe that Bowen left the game while he was still able to contribute to good basketball, and not many 38 year olds can say that. When I think of San Antonio, I think of Bruce Bowen.

Well done to ya Bruce, your contributions to this team we're just as valuble as our big three.
He some ridiculous number of consectutive games starting up until last season.
While we all here loved him for his consistant and fantastic defensive play, i don't think it is quite fitting to send him without reminding everyone of that game where he held Kobe to 17 points while scoring 22 himself i believe. HOORAH!
