Clippers offer contract to Arroyo

Post#1 » by Forte IV » Fri Sep 4, 2009 12:19 am

Via wiretap.

On Thursday, the Los Angeles Clippers extended a contract offer to point guard Carlos Arroyo, a source close to the situation tells RealGM's Alex Kennedy.

While terms of the deal were not disclosed, it is the only offer Arroyo has received this summer.

Arroyo's last stint in the NBA was with the Orlando Magic. He averaged 6.9 points and 3.5 assists per game in 2007.

Last season, Arroyo led Maccabi Tel Aviv to an Israeli Premier League Championship and was named Finals MVP.

He would be the fourth point guard on Los Angeles' roster, which suggests that they're no longer pursuing restricted free agent Ramon Sessions.

I hope he signs with us. I have been wanting Arroyo in a Clippers uniform for so long. Maybe it's just the Purto Rican in me but thats alright. Like I said before he always plays well when he plays in red, white and blue.

Arroyo would be a good option as a backup PG on a one year deal. I hope the two sides can strike a deal.

This must mean:

1) The Sessions pursuit is over.
2) Telfair is actively being shopped.

I thought you guys would've offered a contract to some better PGs that are still available

Would be a damn good move.

I don't see how this points to Telfair being shopped. We can just keep Telfair as the third PG?

I'd prefer Sessions, but if we get Arroyo instead, I wouldn't be too disappointed. Arroyo seems like a solid player that won't wow you, but will get the job done.

But if we get either one of them, I just don't like the amount of depth we have at the PG position, when we really could use another SG/SF. If we get Sessions/Arroyo, we need to swap Telfair for a 2 guard. At the end of the day, if we don't get anyone, and only have Telfair, I think he's good enough. Which is why if we get another good PG, Telfair's being "wasted" to some degree, being the third stringer.

Sessions > Telfair > Arroyo

That's how I see it (specifically in regards to youth and potential). Not that Arroyo would be a bad pickup, but perhaps an unnecessary one? I'd still like to see what Telfair has to offer and hope if we sigh Arroyo, that Telfair would be the second stringer.

Telfair is younger and has more potential than Arroyo, but the Clippers already have their young core and are trying to win now. Telfair will have every opportunity to earn the primary backup PG minutes from Arroyo.

This rumor was reported by the infamous Alex Kennedy. Eric Pincus is claiming that a "rock solid source" is saying that Clippers have not and will not make an offer to Arroyo.

We shall see.

Strange move this doesn't seems to cause the same problems we would have with Sessions and Telfair. Most o the time third string role is or old vets or prospects that need time.

I wouldn't mind signing Arroyo, I'm still hoping that we sign one more player.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

I don't think he ever played a game for us. I think he spent couple years playing in czech republic when we had his rights

He was on our roster for a very short time, but I'm pretty sure he was stuck on the bench.
