It's just plain dumb to stick with Hanie as the #2 and Wolfe/Peterson as the primary Forte backups if that is, indeed, the plan. I've barely scanned the waiver wire but Jeff Garcia was just cut by the Raiders and Tyrell Sutton, Dominic Rhodes, and Gregg Lumpkin are all out there at RB to help this team.

Standing pat is just blind loyalty to our draft picks at the expense of team success. We could be better.

I have to agree with your assessment.
A plea for post scoring is a plausible Bulls plan, but plainly isn't a priority. In response to a post player's dismay about his lack of points in the paint, Paxson said.... "I'm not nearly as concerned about the offensive stuff as he is."

I could see us finding a taker for Gaines, opening up one spot for a better back up RB or a QB like Garcia. If we wanted to fill both of those positions, who do you cut out next?

There's plenty of fat to cut if needed : Adrian Peterson, Bullocks, Steltz, McBride....

If we picked up Matt Jones, Jeff Garcia, and Tyrell Sutton and dumped Rashied Davis, McBride, and Adrian Peterson, we'd certainly be a deeper team.

The Bears signed seven players to the practice squad Sunday, including Northwestern and St. Viator product Brett Basanez.

The quarterback will be available if the Bears need him in an emergency. Jay Cutler and Caleb Hanie are the only quarterbacks on the 53-man roster.

Also signed to the practice squad were guard Johan Asiata, defense end Ervin Baldwin, defensive end Joe Clermond, center Donovan Raiola, fullback Will Ta'ufo'ou and cornerback Woodny Turenne. Baldwin and Clermond give the Bears insurance with only three defensive ends on the active roster.

One spot still remains, and the Bears could add tackle Cody Balogh or look for a running back to provide more depth. Another likely candidate is rookie linebacker Marcus Freeman, a fifth-round pick out of Ohio State.

a guy on NFLTV said that Garcia's contract has money issues attatched if he's signed right away to an opening day roster. For that reason, if hes signed by a team, apparently he'll be signed the next week or so after. You have to think the Bears will be a prime candidate for him with only 2 QBs. One of which can play a ton..... and then one who can take a sack with the best of em.

the only issue with Garcia I can see is that the play calling would be different for him with Garcia being more of a short pass take what the D gives you kind of guy.
