First to Go; Billy, Justin or Tony ??

Post#1 » by Jammer » Sun Sep 6, 2009 12:00 pm

After Glen Davis got a nice new contract, while Leon Powe rehabs in Cleveland, and with this board a tad boring, I thought I'd create a poll on who is first to go of the Celtics excess wings. Now, we know the Celtics couldn't give Tony away to teams with cap room this summer, while even teams with trade exceptions like Denver are opting for shooters like Wally or Rashad McCants. But we also know the Celtics couldn't give away Walker and Giddens. Indiana wouldn't take either one in a sign and trade for Daniels when Pruitt could have been sent to some other team to do the honors of waiving him, with whoever was left over between Giddens and Walker going to a third team. So, the Celtics have a bunch of guys that they can't give away because no one sees them as sure fire NBA rotation players. About the only way the Celtics don't wait out the season to not bring Tony back is if some team like Denver has a 50 game injury to someone like JR Smith and Denver has to bring someone in with one of their (4) trade exceptions. As far as who the Celtics could ship out first, well, your guess is as good as mine. And if there were an actual need, they might be able to move one of these guys. In terms of potential, I think Giddens has the most. Tony, unfortunately, is not appreciated for the "good" things he does.

I hope TA or Giddons, they are very similer actuallly but TA is better and Giddons is taller, both are knunkleheads i could do without. I hope we keep walker, he actually has a brain and seems to have some talent. TA goes first because his contract can facilitate a trade better then giddens due to its larger size.

TA, he's had his shot and fallen short. Doesn't mean his career is over or anything, a change in scenery may do him some good. Billy and Giddens both have the potential to be solid role players, both are young and cheap.

TA

He's proven what he is and he's just not that good. He's a fine deep bench guy for the min, but not at the $2.5M we're paying him. For the role he has, I'd rather have the two cost controlled unknowns with potential. TA's too much of a knucklehead on and off the court to make it worth holding onto him.

I always wondered what the J & R meant in JR Giddens. TA will be gone by the trade deadline to a team that wants to dump a contract.

TA, hopefully.

I used to be high on the guy, but not anymore. Too many knucklehead moves off court, as stated, and some on court, as well. I'd like to see him get another chance elsewhere, and if it works out, good for him. If not, well, that's life.

Don't know much about Giddens other than his towel-waving, but I like Bill Walker quite a bit. I think he's pro material.

Whoever fetches the most in return, that's who.
TA has value as an expiring deal, so my bets on him.

and why is JR a knucklehead? seems like a dedicated and hardworking dude. if you think he can't play that's one thing, but to lump him in with TA knucklehead status seems a bit rude.

TA...

Send them Scal and TA and a million bucks and it makes sense for both sides, they can even cut scal and he can re-sign with us at the minimum if they really want, he would agree to a buyout where he will make the same total amount to go back to the celts

His 5 years in college basketball kind of defined that. He was a possible NBA lottery pick at 19 years old (with GG and Martell Webster) and at 23 was viewed as a late 2nd rounder if it wasn't for Ainge jumping on him. Some of his situation was out of his control but he has shown a pretty big lack of maturity all along getting kicked out of Kansas and New Mexico as a Junior.
